Gas Turbine Power Generation System

This gas turbine power generation system includes: a two-shaft gas turbine; a power generator that is driven by the two-shaft gas turbine and that generates power; an electric motor that is driven by power generated by the power generator; and a frequency converter that converts a frequency of the power that is transmitted between the power generator and the electric motor. The frequency converter is disposed within a predetermined range near the electric motor at the side opposite to the two-shaft gas turbine side relative to the electric motor so as to face the plane perpendicular to a rotation shaft of the electric motor.

Compressor operability control for hybrid electric propulsion

A hybrid electric propulsion system includes a gas turbine engine having a low speed spool and a high speed spool. The low speed spool includes a low pressure compressor and turbine, and the high speed spool includes a high pressure compressor and turbine. The hybrid electric propulsion system includes an electric generator configured to extract power from the low speed spool, an electric motor configured to augment rotational power of the high speed spool, and a controller. The controller is operable to determine a target operating condition of the low pressure compressor to achieve a compressor stability margin in the gas turbine engine, determine a current operating condition of the low pressure compressor, and control a power transfer between the electric generator of the low speed spool and the electric motor of the high speed spool to adjust the current operating condition based on the target operating condition.

Turbomachine dual spool transmission systems

A turbomachine dual spool differential can include a gear assembly configured to combine a low pressure spool input and a high pressure spool input into a combination output to provide an output speed range smaller than a low pressure spool speed range alone. The gear assembly can include a ring gear, a sun gear, and a plurality of planetary gears disposed between the sun gear and the ring gear and meshed with the sun gear and the ring gear. The planetary gears can be rotationally connected to a carrier.

STARTER/GENERATOR

A starter generator located within a sump region of a turbofan engine and coupled to an adapter shaft. The adapter shaft rotationally coupled to the high pressure shaft, forward of a high pressure shaft bearing, and secured by a spanner nut. The engine makes use of two pluralities of electrical conductors, the first extends through an electrical conduit defined by a forward strut extending from the sump region to the outward casing, the second extends axially away from the electric starter. Each of the first plurality of electrical conductors makes reversible contact with a respective one of the second plurality of electrical conductors via an elbow/pin connector, producing a tight turn in area of limited space.

A method and system improving energy efficiency of a turbojet engine by optimizing rotating speed of a fan and operability of an engine, by freeing the fan from exclusive control of a low-pressure (LP) shaft by providing combined control with a high-pressure (HP) shaft when cruising power has been reached. The turbojet engine include at least one LP turbine and one HP turbine coupled to coaxial LP shafts and HP shafts, respectively, which can drive LP and HP compressors, respectively. The LP compressors include a fan that forms a first primary air-intake compression stage. The LP and HP shafts are mounted on one of two driving mechanisms, an inner ring gear, and a planet carrier for a planetary gear train for driving the fan, the HP shaft being mounted on a disengagement mechanism and the fan being coupled to the planetary gear train via an outer driven ring gear.
