Method and apparatus for heating a fuel
11300084 · 2022-04-12 ·

A fuel heating apparatus and method are disclosed where a conductive coil is wrapped around an outer surface of at least a portion of a nozzle of a fuel injector. The coil and the nozzle are inductively cooperative with each other such that the coil, in response to a variable current through the coil, induces a heating of the nozzle. The inductively heated nozzle can heat fuel passing into an engine so as to cause the fuel to combust as it exits the heated nozzle. This arrangement allows for sparkless combustion of fuel in an internal combustion engine.

The high pressure fuel pump includes a body having an intake port and an exhaust port, and provided therein with a pressing device configured to press a portion of fuel at a high pressure, a spill valve coupled to one side of the body to control a supply flow rate and exhaust pressure of the fuel, and a cover coupled to an upper portion of the body and having a recovery port for recovering a portion of the fuel to a bombe. The cover has a dome shape that is convex upward. The cover collects gaseous fuel generated by heat of an engine when the engine is turned off after driving, that is, collects vapor to recover the vapor to the bombe, thereby improving the restartability.

Gas feed method for a gas engine or dual-fuel engine, and gas supply apparatus for same

A gas feed method for a gas engine or dual-fuel engine in which combustion gas (G) is burned with combustion air (L). A gas valve (1) for the feed of combustion gas (G) into the combustion air (L) is arranged upstream of the gas engine or dual-fuel engine. The combustion gas (G) is fed in uncontrolled fashion to the gas valve (1) independently of the operating state of the gas engine or dual-fuel engine. The invention furthermore relates to a gas supply apparatus. A gas valve (1) for the feed of combustion gas (G) into the combustion air (L) is arranged in the gas feed (10) upstream of the gas engine or dual-fuel engine. Control of the gas pressure in a manner dependent on the operating state of the gas engine or dual-fuel engine is not provided upstream of the gas valve (1).

Lube oil controlled ignition engine combustion

In certain embodiments, Lube Oil Controlled Ignition (LOCI) Engine Combustion overcomes the drawbacks of known combustion technologies. First, lubricating oil is already part of any combustion engine; hence, there is no need to carry a secondary fuel and to have to depend on an additional fuel system as in the case of dual-fuel technologies. Second, the ignition and the start of combustion rely on the controlled autoignition of the lubricating oil preventing the occurrence of abnormal combustion as experienced with the Spark Ignition technology. Third, LOCI combustion is characterized by the traveling of a premixed flame; hence, it has a controllable duration resulting in a wide engine load-speed window unlike the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition technology where the engine load-speed window is narrow. Adaptive Intake Valve Closure may be used to control in-cylinder compression temperature to be high enough to realize the consistent auto ignition of the lubricating oil mist.

Pressure regulating mass flow system for multipoint gaseous fuel injection

Embodiments of a gaseous or dual fuel electronic pressure regulation system (EPRS) for a multipoint fuel injection engine are described herein. Additionally, embodiments of a method for controlling the EPRS are provided. In particular, the EPRS employs an electronic pressure regulator (EPR) capable of accurately determining and controlling the mass flow of gaseous fuel into a fuel rail so as to avoid pressure droop and over- and under-pressurization of the gas admission valves (GAVs). By using the EPRS described above, mass flow is able to be distributed to the downstream manifold or engine cylinders very accurately, and the GAVs are able to be driven simultaneously in a pressure/pulse duration that is optimal for accurate and repeatable operation.
