Solvent-based adsorbent regeneration for onboard octane on-demand and cetane on-demand

A vehicular propulsion system, a vehicular fuel system and a method of producing fuel for an internal combustion engine. A separation unit that makes up a part of the fuel system includes one or more adsorbent-based reaction chambers to selectively receive and separate at least a portion of onboard fuel into octane-enhanced and cetane-enhanced components. Regeneration of an adsorbate takes place through interaction with a solvent, while subsequent separation allows the solvent to be reused. A controller may be used to determine a particular operational condition of the internal combustion engine such that the onboard fuel can be sent to one or more combustion chambers within the internal combustion engine without first passing through the separation unit, or instead to the separation unit in situations where the internal combustion engine may require an octane-rich or cetane-rich mixture.

Method and apparatus for modifying an OEM fuel system for bi-fuel use

The present invention is a system and method for adapting and modifying an existing mono-fuel delivery system for an internal combustion engine to run as a bi-fuel system by reusing and repurposing OEM components of the mono-fuel system. The bi-fuel system makes use of an integration plate that may be mounted to the system fuel filter in substantially the same location as the fuel filter is mounted in the mono-fuel configuration. The integration plate also may deliver either fuel types into the existing engine fuel intake port thus the system does not require the creation of a secondary fuel intake port for the secondary fuel. The integration plate may also be situated such that it minimizes the space it must use within the engine compat anent and it may use the preexisting engine mounting points designed for the fuel filter in the mono-fuel system.

Engine device

An engine device (21) including: an intake manifold (67) configured to supply air into a cylinder (77), an exhaust manifold (44) configured to output exhaust gas from the cylinder; a gas injector (98) which mixes a gaseous fuel with the air supplied from the intake manifold; and a main fuel injection valve (79) configured to inject a liquid fuel into the cylinder for combustion. At the time of switching the operation mode from one to another between a gas mode and a diesel mode, a supply amount of a first fuel to be supplied in a post-switching operation mode is increased to a switching threshold value through an increase control which monotonously increases the supply amount, and then is controlled by a speed-governing control based on the engine rotation number. The switching threshold value is set based on the engine rotation number or the engine load.

Methods and systems for emissions control in a dual fuel engine

Various methods and systems are provided for an engine with an exhaust gas treatment system. In one example, under a first condition, a first fuel is delivered for combustion in the engine. Under a second condition, a second fuel is delivered for combustion in the engine, the second fuel different than the first fuel. Under a third condition, the first fuel is delivered as a reductant for the exhaust gas treatment system.

UNIFLOW-SCAVENGED TWO-CYCLE ENGINE

A uniflow-scavenged two-cycle engine includes: a cylinder which has a combustion chamber; a piston; a scavenging chamber that surrounds one end side of the cylinder in the stroke direction of the piston and to which compressed active gas is guided; a scavenging port that is provided in a portion of the cylinder which is positioned in the scavenging chamber and suctions active gas from the scavenging chamber to the combustion chamber in response to a sliding motion of the piston; a fuel injection opening that injects fuel gas into the active gas which is suctioned into the scavenging port; and a fuel injecting valve that opens and closes a fuel supply path through which a fuel tank, communicates with the fuel injection opening, and is disposed in an space isolated from the scavenging chamber.

Fuel system having multiple combustion modes

A fuel system is disclosed that is capable of operating in multiple combustion modes. A method is also disclosed of operating a dual fuel engine in conjunction with the fuel system. The method may include detecting a performance parameter of gaseous fuel in the fuel system. The method may also include selecting a combustion mode from a plurality of combustion modes based on the performance parameter. The method may further include injecting gaseous fuel and liquid fuel into at least one cylinder of the engine according to an injection timing corresponding to the selected combustion mode.
