ENGINE SYSTEM HAVING UNKNOWN-FUEL STARTUP STRATEGY
A control system is provided for use with an engine. The control system may have a plurality of fuel valves, at least one sensor, a starter motor, and a controller in communication with the plurality of fuel valves, the at least one sensor, and the starter motor. The controller may be configured to set at least a first of the plurality of fuel valves to a first admission setting, to set at least a second of the plurality of fuel valves to a second admission setting different from the first admission setting, and to cause the starter motor to crank the engine. The controller may also be configured to determine, based on the signal, which one of the first and second admission settings results in combustion initiation during cranking, and to responsively set all of the plurality of fuel valves to the one of the first and second admission settings.
FUEL INJECTOR OF A DUAL-FUEL INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND DUAL-FUEL INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A fuel injector feeds fuel to a combustion chamber of a cylinder of a dual-fuel engine and includes: a main body having a needle guide; a nozzle needle guidable in the needle guide; a needle fuel chamber defined by the main body, coupleable to the combustion chamber, wherein the orifices are open in a first position of the nozzle needle and closed in a second position of the nozzle needle; a first line arranged in the main body, and being coupled to the needle fuel chamber, via the first line a fuel being introduceable into the needle fuel chamber. In the main body a second line is coupleable to the needle guide and to a control chamber of a control valve of the fuel injector, wherein via the second line a fuel is feedable to the needle guide as barrier fluid and to the control chamber as working fluid.
DUAL-FUEL INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A dual-fuel internal combustion engine includes: cylinders for combusting a first liquid fuel having a first ignitability in a first operating mode, and a second liquid fuel having a second lesser ignitability, in a second operating mode; a main injection system including a main injector for each cylinder, for feeding the first liquid fuel to the respective cylinders in the first operating mode and for feeding the second liquid fuel to the respective cylinders in the second operating mode; and a pilot injection system including a pilot injector for each cylinder, via which the first liquid fuel can is feedable to the respective cylinders in the second operating mode for igniting the second liquid fuel. The main and pilot injection systems are coupled such that in the second operating mode the first liquid fuel, is feedable to the respective main injector as a working fluid and/or a barrier fluid.
SYSTEMS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AUTO-IGNITION
Methods and systems are provided for maintaining combustion stability in a multi-fuel engine. In one example, a system may include first and second fuel systems to deliver liquid and gaseous fuels, respectively, to at least one cylinder of the engine, and a controller. The controller may be configured to supply the gaseous fuel to the at least one cylinder, inject the liquid fuel to the at least one cylinder to compression ignite the liquid fuel and combust the gaseous fuel in the at least one cylinder, and retard an injection timing of the injection of the liquid fuel based on a measured parameter associated with auto-ignition of end gases subsequent to the compression-ignition of the liquid fuel. In some examples, the controller may further be configured to adjust an amount of the gaseous fuel relative to an amount of the liquid fuel based on the measured parameter.
SYSTEMS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AUTO-IGNITION
Methods and systems are provided for maintaining combustion stability in a multi-fuel engine. In some examples, the controller may further be configured to adjust an amount of the gaseous fuel relative to an amount of the liquid fuel based on the measured parameter.
DUAL-FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR DIRECT INJECTION
A dual-fuel supply system (100) for direct injection for engines of heavy vehicles, comprising: a supply line of a combustible liquid (160); a supply line of a combustible gas (170); a plurality of injectors (150) in fluid communication with the supply line of the combustible liquid (160) and with the supply line of the combustible gas (170); a pressure regulator device (1) for regulating the combustible gas; an electronic control unit (ECU) configured to control the supply of combustible liquid and of the combustible gas to the injectors (150), the electronic control unit (ECU) being configured to control the pressure regulator device (1) to track a reference pressure (p.sub.target) according to a feedback logic.
FUEL-REFORMING DEVICE AND FUEL-REFORMING METHOD
Provided is a fuel-reforming device comprising: an ammonia tank (4); a reformer (5) for reforming ammonia and generating high-concentration hydrogen gas having a hydrogen content of at least 99%; a mixing tank (7) for mixing ammonia and hydrogen for temporary storage; and a control means (10) for controlling the respective supply amounts of ammonia and high-concentration hydrogen gas that are supplied to the mixing tank (7). The control means (10) calculates the combustion rate coefficient C of mixed gas with respect to a reference fuel on the basis of equation (1). Equation (1): S.sub.0=S.sub.H×C+S.sub.A×(1−C). In equation (1), S.sub.0 is the combustion rate of the reference fuel, S.sub.H is the combustion rate of hydrogen, S.sub.A is the combustion rate of ammonia, and C is the combustion rate coefficient of mixed gas. In addition, on the basis of equation (2), the control means (10) determines the volume fractions of ammonia and hydrogen that are supplied to the mixing tank. Equation (2): C=1−exp(−A×M.sub.B). In equation (2), M is the volume fraction of hydrogen in mixed gas, and A and B are constants.
FUEL SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR ECO-FRIENDLY SHIP
The present invention provides a fuel supply system, for an eco-friendly ship, which selectively uses an existing fuel and an ammonia fuel or uses a mixture thereof as a fuel for a propulsion engine and a power generation engine of a ship so as to follow ship greenhouse gas regulations to be reinforced in phases at major points until 2050.
Optimized fuel management system for direct injection ethanol enhancement of gasoline engines
Fuel management system for enhanced operation of a spark ignition gasoline engine. Injectors inject an anti-knock agent such as ethanol directly into a cylinder. It is preferred that the direct injection occur after the inlet valve is closed. It is also preferred that stoichiometric operation with a three way catalyst be used to minimize emissions. In addition, it is also preferred that the anti-knock agents have a heat of vaporization per unit of combustion energy that is at least three times that of gasoline.
Igniter for dual fuel engine having liquid fuel outlet checks and spark ignition source
An igniter for a dual fuel engine includes an igniter body having spray outlets formed in a nozzle and arranged in a plurality of outlet sets. The igniter further includes a plurality of outlet checks each movable in the igniter body to open and close the spray outlets in a respective one of the plurality of outlet sets, and spark electrodes mounted to the igniter body and forming a spark gap. The outlet sets vary set-to-set in at least one of spray angle, spray outlet number, or spray outlet size. Related methodology is disclosed.
