CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
To provide a controller for internal combustion engine which can suppress deterioration of the detection accuracy of the combustion state due to influence of the external disturbance component, when detecting the combustion state based on angle detection information by the crank angle sensor. A controller for internal combustion engine calculates a shaft torque in unburning; calculates an external load torque based on the shaft torque in unburning and the actual shaft torque in the vicinity of the top dead center; and in an integration crank angle interval which is set in the compression stroke and the combustion stroke, calculates a subtraction value by subtracting the external load torque from the shaft torque in unburning, calculates a division value by dividing the subtraction value by the inertia moment, and calculates a combustion state index by integrating a value obtained by subtracting the division value from the crank angle acceleration.
EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION CONTROL IN AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A system and method of integrating an engine having dynamic skip fire control with an exhaust gas recirculation system in a turbocharged internal combustion engine is described. An engine control system determines an appropriate firing pattern based at least in part on a desired exhaust gas recirculation flow rate. Signals from sensors in the intake manifold and exhaust system may also be used as part of a feedback loop to determine a desired exhaust gas recirculation flow rate.
Method and system for humidity sensor diagnostics
Methods and systems are provided for an engine including a humidity sensor. Degradation of the humidity sensor may be determined based on a change in intake air relative humidity as compared to a change in intake air temperature or pressure, under selected conditions. An amount of exhaust gas recirculated to an engine intake is adjusted differently based on whether the humidity sensor is degraded or functional.
Method and systems for engine braking via coordinated EGR and VGT actuation
Methods and systems are provided for controlling an EGR valve and VGT vanes during engine braking. In one example, a method may include during an engine braking event in an engine, coordinating adjustments of both of a cross-sectional area of an inlet of a turbine and an opening of a valve of an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system to achieve a desired braking power and to maintain an exhaust system temperature above a threshold temperature during the engine braking event.
Engine system
An engine system is provided, which includes an engine, a swirl control valve, and a controller. The engine includes a cylinder, a piston, and a fuel injection valve provided incliningly with respect to an axial direction of the piston and configured to directly inject fuel into the cylinder. The swirl control valve is provided inside an intake passage and generates a swirl flow inside the cylinder at least when the valve closes. When an engine load is below a given threshold, the controller controls the swirl control valve to close, and controls the fuel injection valve to inject fuel during an intake stroke. While the engine load is below the threshold, at a fixed engine speed, the controller controls to advance a fuel injection timing when the engine load is at a first load, compared with at a second load higher than the first load.
Methods and systems for multi-fuel engine
Methods and systems are provided for adjusting a location of a fuel injection in response to a substitution rate and a desired EGR flow. In one example, a method may include injecting a first fuel to a combustion chamber via a direct injector positioned to inject directly into the combustion chamber, injecting a second, different, fuel to the combustion chamber via an exhaust port injector positioned to inject toward an exhaust valve of the combustion chamber, and combusting the first and second fuels together in the combustion chamber.
CONTROL METHOD OF EGR VALVE FOR VEHICLE AND CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE SAME
A method and system for controlling an EGR valve for a vehicle may include an adjusting step of reducing the amount of air flowing into an engine at operation points of the engine lower than a predetermined value at each of the operation points by a controller; a learning step of maintaining, as a reduction-learning amount, a reduction amount of the amount of air from the predetermined value before a malfunction occurs, by the controller, when a malfunction occurs in the engine due to the reduction in the amount of air; a compensating step of determining a compensating air amount at each of the operation points by applying the reduction amount to the predetermined value by the controller; and an EGR controlling step of controlling an EGR-opening amount to satisfy the compensating air amount for a current operation time after the compensating step.
Internal combustion engine system, comprising an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas recirculation circuit
An internal combustion engine system including an internal combustion engine and an exhaust gas recirculation circuit connecting an exhaust manifold of the engine to an intake manifold of the engine, the circuit including at least one reed valve, an EGR valve, that is arranged downstream of the reed valve on the path of exhaust gas flowing from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold and an EGR line connecting the reed valve to the EGR valve. The system further includes a bypass line for gas, connecting the EGR line to an exhaust line of the engine and controller for controlling the flow of gas discharged through the bypass line.
Engine system
An engine system is provided, which includes an engine, a swirl control valve, an EGR passage, an EGR gas adjusting mechanism, and a controller. The engine includes a cylinder, a piston, and a fuel injection valve. The swirl control valve is provided inside an intake passage and generates a swirl flow inside the cylinder when it closes. When an engine load is at or below a given threshold, the controller controls the swirl control valve to close. While the engine load is the threshold or below, the controller controls the EGR gas adjusting mechanism such that, at a fixed engine speed, an increase rate of an EGR gas amount with respect to an increase in the engine load is lower in a first load range than in a second load range, the first load range being on a higher load side of the second load range and including the threshold.
FUEL AGNOSTIC COMPRESSION IGNITION ENGINE
Some embodiments described herein relate to a method of operating a compression ignition engine. The method of operating the compression ignition engine includes opening an intake valve to draw a volume of air into a combustion chamber, closing an intake valve, and moving a piston from a bottom-dead-center (BDC) position to a top-dead-center (TDC) position in the combustion chamber at a compression ratio of at least about 15:1. The method further includes injecting a volume of fuel into the combustion chamber at an engine crank angle between about 330 degrees and about 365 degrees during a first time period. The fuel has a cetane number less than about 40. The method further includes combusting substantially all of the volume of fuel. In some embodiments, a delay between injecting the volume of fuel into the combustion chamber and initiation of combustion is less than about 2 ms.
