An internal combustion engine has a control device, an EGR valve that adjusts an EGR rate, a PCV valve that adjusts an opening degree of a first PCV passage that communicates an inside of a crankcase and a downstream side of a throttle valve. The control device operates the throttle valve in a closing direction in response to a deceleration request. The control device adjusts an opening degree of the PCV valve based on an immediately preceding EGR rate immediately before reception of the deceleration request.

Intrusive EGR monitor for a hybrid vehicle

A system and method for controlling an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system in a hybrid vehicle using an intrusive monitor include adjusting EGR flow through an EGR valve based on an average pressure difference between pressure measured from a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor and inferred pressure determined from mass air flow (MAF) into an intake of an engine when engine speed, throttle and camshaft timing position change is below a corresponding threshold. The measured pressure and inferred pressure are determined when the EGR valve is in a closed position and an open position.

ENGINE CONTROLLER

The engine controller includes an acceleration input detector that detects an accelerator pedal motion, a fuel injection amount calculator that calculates a target fuel injection amount, a fuel injection controller that controls the fuel injector, an EGR valve opening calculator that calculates a target EGR valve opening, and an EGR controller that controls the EGR valve. The EGR controller controls, after the accelerator pedal motion has been given, the EGR valve in a direction to decrease an opening of the EGR valve to a target EGR valve opening corresponding to a running condition to be reached after the accelerator pedal motion has been given. The control of the EGR valve opening is started before the fuel injection controller controls the fuel injector based on the target fuel injection amount calculated by the fuel injection amount calculator based on the accelerator pedal motion.

Control apparatus

A control apparatus controlling a controlled variable of a controlled object having a response lag characteristic using a combination of feedforward control method, response-specifying control method, and disturbance compensation method. An ECU of the apparatus calculates driver demand boost pressure for feedforward-controlling actual boost pressure as controlled variable, and calculates FB target pressure as value on which response lag characteristic of the actual value to the driver demand value is reflected. The ECU calculates error as difference between the actual and target values, and feedback correction term as sum of equivalent control input including disturbance estimated value and the error as variables and reaching law input, using equation defining relationship between the error, feedback correction term value, and disturbance estimated value, and response-specifying control algorithm, and then adds the correction term value to the driver demand value to thereby calculate demanded boost pressure as control input.

ANNULAR RING MIXER WITH VANES

An exhaust gas recirculation system for an engine includes a conduit, and a mixer. The conduit is configured to direct to direct exhaust gas away from an exhaust manifold. The mixer is configured to direct exhaust gas from the conduit, into an engine air intake system. The mixer is arranged with an exhaust gas mixing volute chamber having a plurality of mixing vanes configured to direct the exhaust gas into a central intake airflow upstream of an intake manifold.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING EGR DEVICE IN HIGH-LOAD DRIVING, AND INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE SYSTEM

Proposed is a method and system for controlling an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) device in high-load driving, and an internal combustion engine vehicle including the system. The method of controlling an EGR device in high-load driving compares a ratio of pressures at a front end and a rear end of a throttle valve with a preset critical value that is a reference for determining high-load driving, performs Wide Open Throttle (WOT) control for fully opening the throttle valve when the ratio of pressures is larger than the preset critical value, determines whether engine torque due to the WOT control and use of EGR satisfies torque requested by a driver, and corrects throttle opening or stops use of EGR, depending on whether the engine torque due to use of EGR together with the WOT control satisfies the requested torque.

Methods and systems for operating an engine that includes adjustable poppet valve timing and an exhaust gas recirculation valve are described. In one example, the exhaust gas recirculation valve is opened and the timing of the poppet valves is retarded so that an amount of fresh air that is pumped by the engine to an after treatment device may be reduced.

AUTO-IGNITION INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE SUITABLE FOR HCCI OPERATION, AND METHOD FOR OPERATING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE OF SAID TYPE

Methods and systems are provided for an auto-ignition internal combustion engine comprising an exhaust gas recirculation arrangement, an intake system, and an exhaust gas discharge system for the discharge of exhaust gases, in which the internal combustion engine is operable, at least in a first, stoichiometric operating mode, by way of a spatial ignition method (HCCI mode). For the aftertreatment of the exhaust gas in the first operating mode, a three-way catalytic converter is provided in the exhaust gas discharge system for reducing nitrogen oxides and oxidizing unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. In this way, the auto-ignition internal combustion engine has a greater window of operation in the HCCI mode than conventional auto-ignition internal combustion engines.

Systems and methods for fuel post injection timing

Methods and systems are provided for fuel post injection for diesel particulate filter (DPF) regeneration. In one example, a method may include, responsive to a request for generating exotherms in an exhaust system of an engine while combustion is discontinued in at least one cylinder of the engine, injecting fuel into a cylinder within a threshold crank angle range around top dead center (TDC) of a compression stroke of the cylinder and also within the threshold crank angle range around top dead center of an exhaust stroke of the cylinder, the threshold crank angle range extending from no more than 40 crank angle degrees before TDC to no more than 40 crank angle degrees after TDC. In this way, fuel post injections may be injected +/−40 crank angle degrees after TDC of the compression and exhaust strokes to increase exhaust temperature while avoiding wall wetting and oil-in-fuel dilution.
