A fuel supply system includes an electronic control unit that outputs a target fuel pressure for controlling a low-pressure pump and an engine status, and a fuel pump controller (FPC) that generates a drive signal for driving the low-pressure pump based on the target fuel pressure. The FPC is configured to obtain an actual fuel pressure, to set a duty ratio and to perform a feedback control for the actual fuel pressure to follow the target fuel pressure, and to set a lower limit guard value based on the engine status. The lower limit guard setter sets a duty ratio of 0% as the lower limit guard value when the engine status indicates a stop of the engine.

Methods and systems are provided for maintaining efficiency of a catalyst that is positioned in an exhaust system downstream of an internal combustion engine. In one example, the catalyst may be heated via supplying fuel to a cylinder that does not combust the fuel. The fuel may be oxidized at the catalyst via excess oxygen in the exhaust system.

Method and control unit for carrying out an engine stop of an internal combustion engine

A control unit is provided for a vehicle having an internal combustion engine with a shaft, which can be coupled to an electric machine or decoupled from the electric machine. The control unit is designed to couple the electric machine to the internal combustion engine during an engine stop of the internal combustion engine. The control unit causes the electric machine to guide the shaft of the internal combustion engine. The control unit determines that a speed of the guided shaft is equal to or less than a speed threshold value and, in response thereto, decouples the electric machine from the internal combustion engine, such that the internal combustion engine stops without being guided by the electric machine.

Systems and methods for reducing engine overheating using liquid fuel

Systems and methods are provided for cooling an overheated engine using a combination of variable displacement engine (VDE) technology and direct injection technology. In one example, a method may include deactivating a subset of engine cylinders based on an engine temperature and directly injecting liquid fuel into the deactivated cylinders. In this way, an increased thermal conductivity of the liquid fuel compared to air decreases the engine temperature at a faster rate than when air-based engine cooling methods are used, thereby preventing overheating-related engine degradation.

A control device obtains a specification of a vehicle-mounted device which is mounted on a vehicle, and implements a control according to the specification. The vehicle-mounted device includes a transmission unit that transmits a specific signal that enables the specification of the vehicle-mounted device to be obtained. The control device includes a receiving unit which is configured to be able to receive the specific signal, and a learning unit that learns that the specification of the vehicle-mounted device is a first specification if the receiving unit does not receive the specific signal, and learns that the specification of the vehicle-mounted device is a second specification, which is different from the first specification, when the receiving unit receives the specific signal.

A CPU performs a regeneration process of stopping combustion control in one or some of cylinders and making the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture in the other cylinders or cylinder richer than a theoretical air-fuel ratio, when the amount of PM collected by a GPF increases. In performing the regeneration process, the CPU itself compensates for a fall in the output of an internal combustion engine by gradually increasing the filling efficiency of the other cylinders or cylinder. It should be noted, however, that since the output of the internal combustion engine temporarily fluctuates, the CPU compensates for the fluctuations through the use of a second motor-generator. The CPU varies the retardation amount of a timing of starting the regeneration process with respect to a timing of gradually increasing the filling efficiency, in accordance with the state of a battery.

METHOD FOR OPERATING AN EXHAUST GAS SENSOR

A method for operating an exhaust gas sensor in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine of a vehicle. The exhaust gas sensor includes a ceramic sensor element having at least one measuring electrode and a heating device. A binary dewpoint end signal is calculated, based on data which relate to the internal combustion engine and the exhaust gas sensor, which indicates whether or not the occurrence of liquid water in the exhaust system is still to be expected. Whenever the vehicle is turned off and the dewpoint end signal simultaneously has the value which signals that the occurrence of liquid water in the exhaust system is still to be expected, the sensor element is heated by its heating device to a temperature for a certain period of time in such a way that the sensor element dries.

Provided is an air leading type stratified scavenging two-stroke internal combustion engine including an air passage configured to allow supply of air to a scavenging passage configured to allow communication between a crank chamber and a combustion chamber, at least one sensor configured to detect an operating condition of an engine, and a fuel valve configured to control fuel supply to the air passage based on detection performed by the at least one sensor. The fuel supply to the air passage is controlled by the fuel valve at times other than start and idling of the engine or at needed times in addition to the start or the idling of the engine.

Methods and system for stopping an engine of a hybrid vehicle

A method and system for operating a vehicle that includes an automatic transmission with a torque converter clutch is described. In one example, the method includes predicting a time that the torque converter clutch will open so that stopping rotation of the engine may be requested before the torque converter clutch is opened. The stopping rotation of the engine is requested to conserve fuel.

Methods and system to shutdown an engine

Systems and methods for operating an engine that is started via expansion stroke combustion are described. In one example, the method increases air flow through the engine during an engine stopping process so that a larger amount of air may be trapped in a cylinder that is on its expansion stroke so that greater amounts of engine torque may be provided during engine starting.
