VEHICLE DRIVE CONTROL DEVICE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR VEHICLE DRIVE CONTROL DEVICE
In a drive control device, a controller automatically stops an engine if an execution condition of an idling stop is satisfied, and an electric oil pump is driven during an automatic stop of the engine. A first friction engaging element establishes a starting gear position and a second friction engaging element is released when a vehicle starts. A second solenoid drains oil to be supplied to the second friction engaging element according to an indicator current. A drain degree becomes smaller by reducing the indicator current. The controller reduces the indicator current below a minimum value during the automatic stop of the engine.
CONTROL STRATEGY FOR AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN OF ENGINE
A system is provided for automatically shutting down an engine of a portable or handheld device in response to the engine operating while in an enclosed space, such as a garage, shed, room, etc. to prevent dangers associated with carbon monoxide accumulating in the enclosed space. The engine has an oxygen sensor in its exhaust that is configured to detect the presence or absence of oxygen in the exhaust. Fuel can be removed from the air/fuel mixture (e.g., less fuel being injected) based on the output of the oxygen sensor to maintain a given desired air/fuel ratio. If the amount of fuel provided continues to decrease over time in order to maintain the air/fuel ratio, the controller can assume the engine is operating in confined spaces and can shut down the engine.
Method for Starting an Internal Combustion Engine
A method for starting or stopping an internal combustion engine which reduces starter loading and engine vibrations is provided. The method includes varying a valve stroke of at least one cylinder of the engine such that during the starting or stopping procedure the at least one cylinder undergoes decompression.
ABNORMALITY DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND ABNORMALITY DIAGNOSIS METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An abnormality diagnosis system of an internal combustion engine that is installed on a vehicle and includes an actuator includes an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit receives vehicle outside information concerning a period of time for which the vehicle speed is less than a predetermined value, and determines whether the period for which the vehicle speed is less than the predetermined value is expected to be equal to or longer than a length of time required for an abnormality diagnosis of an abnormality diagnosis target device. The electronic control unit activates the actuator and starts the abnormality diagnosis as the vehicle speed becomes lower than the predetermined value, when it determines that the period for which the vehicle speed is lower than the predetermined value is expected to be equal to or longer than the time required for the abnormality diagnosis of the target device.
SURGICAL STAPLING INSTRUMENT HAVING A RELEASABLE BUTTRESS MATERIAL
A surgical stapler including an anvil, a staple cartridge, and a buttress material removably retained to the anvil and/or staple cartridge. In various embodiments, the staple cartridge can include at least one staple removably stored therein which can, when deployed, or fired, therefrom, contact the buttress material and remove the buttress material from the anvil and/or staple cartridge. In at least one embodiment, the anvil can include at least one lip and/or groove configured to removably retain the buttress material to the anvil until deformable members extending from the surgical staple are bent by the anvil and are directed toward and contact the buttress material.
Method for operating a particle sensor
A method for determining soot in exhaust gases of burners or internal combustion engines with the aid of a sensor element which includes at least two measuring electrodes exposed to the exhaust gas and one heating element, a voltage being applied to the at least two measuring electrodes during a measuring phase and the current flow or electrical resistance occurring between the measuring electrodes being determined and output as a measure for the particle concentration or the particle mass flow, characterized in that during the measuring phase, the temperature of the sensor element is monitored and the sensor element is heated by the heating element, if the temperature of the sensor element falls below a limiting temperature.
Control device for internal combustion engine
An internal combustion engine includes cylinders that are divided into a first cylinder group and a second cylinder group, a cylinder reduction mechanism that holds intake valves and exhaust valves of the first cylinder group in closed states so as to establish a reduced-cylinder state. When the engine is stopped in the reduced-cylinder state, the electronic control unit provided in the engine starts the engine by ignition, by executing fuel injection and ignition in an expansion-stroke cylinder. When the first cylinder group includes an exhaust-stroke cylinder, the engine is started by ignition through fuel injection and ignition in the expansion-stroke cylinder, after a piston is moved in a reverse direction through fuel injection and ignition in the exhaust-stroke cylinder. When the first cylinder group does not include the exhaust-stroke cylinder, the engine is started by ignition, through fuel injection and ignition in the expansion-stroke cylinder and an intake-stroke cylinder.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR A VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT ENGINE
Methods and systems for an engine are provided for monitoring cylinder valve deactivation of an engine. One example method includes, responsive to a request to diagnose a cylinder valve actuator of an engine during a non-fueling condition of the engine, commanding an EGR valve open and determining a first exhaust gas flow, and deactivating one or more cylinder valves and indicating cylinder valve actuator degradation when a second exhaust gas flow is not less than a threshold relative to the first exhaust gas flow.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR AN ENGINE START USING AN ELECTRICALLY DRIVABLE COMPRESSOR
Methods and systems are provided for expediting turbine spool up during an engine restart following an engine stop while a vehicle is in motion. In one example, a method includes, in response to engine restart conditions being met, operating an electrically driven compressor to supply compressed air to a turbocharger turbine for expedited turbine spool up during engine cranking.
CONTROL APPARATUS FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND CONTROL METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes an electronic control unit that is configured to perform an operation of making a lift amount of a specific valve corresponding to one of either intake ports or exhaust ports for a specific cylinder in which an amount of condensate water produced in the port or flowing into the port is larger than in the other cylinders when the engine is stopped, in a case where production of condensate water in the ports or inflow of condensate water into the ports is predicted.
