CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

In a catalyst warming-up control, a first time injection is performed by an injector in an intake stroke. A second time injection is performed with an amount smaller than the first time injection in an expansion stroke after a compression top dead center. In the catalyst warming-up control, an interval from the start of the ignition period of an spark plug to the completion of the second time injection is controlled by the ECU so that the initial flame generated from an air-fuel mixture containing the fuel spray injected by the first time injection is brought into contact with the fuel spray injected by the second time injection.

A control device for an internal combustion engine is programmed, during a catalyst warm-up control, to perform first fuel injection by an injector in an intake stroke, control an ignition device so as to generate a discharge spark in a predetermined period in an expansion stroke, and perform second fuel injection, at a timing retarded from a compression top dead center, such that its injection period overlaps with at least a part of the predetermined period and an end timing of the injection period is advanced from an end timing of the predetermined period. Further, the control device is programmed, during the catalyst warm-up control, to control an actual tumble ratio depending on a result of determination using a first index value representing a speed of initial combustion accompanying an ignition by the ignition device and a second index value representing a speed of main combustion accompanying the ignition.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING ENGINE PULL-UP THRESHOLD

A system and method for modifying the engine pull-up (EPU) logic within a hybrid vehicle based on max motor torque that accounts for the drop or change in available motor torque due to the opening/slipping of a torque converter bypass clutch during engine starts is disclosed. An engine pull-up threshold is determined from max available motor torque at a virtual impeller speed, where the virtual impeller speed is the impeller speed that would result if the torque converter bypass clutch was open/slipping and transferring the same amount of torque.

FUEL SUPPLY DEVICE FOR LPDI ENGINE AND START CONTROL METHOD OF LPDI ENGINE HAVING THE FUEL SUPPLY DEVICE

A fuel supply device for a liquefied petroleum direct injection (LPDI) engine in which liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is directly injected into a combustion chamber and a start control method of an LPDI engine having the fuel supply device, wherein the high pressure fuel pump receives and compresses fuel to a pressure higher than a pressure at which fuel has been supplied, wherein the high pressure fuel rail buffers and supplies fuel to a direct injector that injects fuel directly into a combustion chamber, wherein the return line is connected to the supply line through the high pressure fuel pump to form a low pressure line, allowing a surplus portion of fuel supplied to the high pressure fuel pump from the fuel tank to return to the fuel tank, and wherein a first valve is disposed on the return line to control the flow rate of returning fuel.

SWITCHABLE RADIATIVE ENERGY HARVESTING SYSTEMS

Switchable radiative energy harvesting systems and methods of harvesting radiation are disclosed. A system includes an optical filter that includes at least one of an active material and a passive material. The optical filter is switchable between a shield mode and a harvesting mode such that the at least one of the active material and the passive material is in a reflecting state during the shield mode such that the optical filter blocks passage of radiation from a thermal emitter to a thermophotovoltaic cell and a transmitting state during the harvesting mode such that that the optical filter allows the radiation to pass from the thermal emitter to the thermophotovoltaic cell.

Port Injection System For Reduction Of Particulates From Turbocharged Direct Injection Gasoline Engines

The present invention describes a fuel-management system for minimizing particulate emissions in turbocharged direct injection gasoline engines. The system optimizes the use of port fuel injection (PFI) in combination with direct injection (DI), particularly in cold start and other transient conditions. In the present invention, the use of these control systems together with other control systems for increasing the effectiveness of port fuel injector use and for reducing particulate emissions from turbocharged direct injection engines is described. Particular attention is given to reducing particulate emissions that occur during cold start and transient conditions since a substantial fraction of the particulate emissions during a drive cycle occur at these times. Further optimization of the fuel management system for these conditions is important for reducing drive cycle emissions.

DEVICE AND METHOD IN CONNECTION WITH A PRE-HEATING PROCESS OF AN AFTERTREATMENT SYSTEM
20230235711 · 2023-07-27 ·

A method performed by a control unit in connection with a pre-heating process of an aftertreatment system for a combustion engine is provided. The control unit obtains a scheduled start time of the combustion engine. The control unit schedules a pre-heating of the aftertreatment system to be completed before the scheduled start time. The control unit detects a start of the combustion engine at an actual start time. In response to the detected start of the combustion engine, and using the actual and scheduled start times, the control unit determines whether the scheduled pre-heating of the aftertreatment system fulfils one or more success criteria. When the one or more success criteria are fulfilled, the control unit triggers a performance increase of the combustion engine.
