Systems and methods for reducing vehicle evaporative emissions
10940854 · 2021-03-09 · ·

Methods and systems are provided for reducing bleed emissions and exhaust emissions from a vehicle that may be operated autonomously as well as part of a car-sharing model. A parking location of the vehicle is selected at the end of a vehicle event requested by an operator as a function of fuel system and evaporative emissions system variables such that the solar loading of the parking location enables reduced emissions. The parking location selection is further coordinated with the pick-up time and location of a subsequent vehicle event requested by another vehicle operator.

A method of operating a fuel injection system for a motor vehicle includes one or more of the following: operating a fuel injector to perform a fuel injection, the fuel injector being in fluid communication with a fuel rail; sampling a rail pressure in the fuel rail during the fuel injection; regulating the rail pressure at a desired injection pressure, P.sub.inj, to the fuel injector; measuring an overall leakage on variations of the rail pressure across an engine cycle for the motor vehicle and between two engine positions of an internal combustion engine for the motor vehicle; and restarting a new measurement cycle for a new pressure measurement target.

Evaporative emissions diagnostic during extended idle state

Methods and systems are provided for reducing release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere for a hybrid vehicle. In one example, a method comprises locking a transmission of the vehicle in park until a request to override the locking is received at a controller of the vehicle, and conducting one or more routines related to reducing release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere, where the one or more diagnostic routines rely on a vacuum derived from an engine of the vehicle combusting air and fuel while the transmission is locked in park. In this way, completion rates for conducting the one or more routines may be improved, and issues related to the release of undesired evaporative emissions to atmosphere may be reduced or avoided.

GAS EMISSION MONITORING AND DETECTION

Systems, methods, and a computer readable medium are provided for monitoring and detecting a gas emission. Sensor data including gas concentration and wind data associated with a gas emission from an emission source is received from Near-Field and Far-Field sensors configured within a gas production and distribution environment. The sensor data can be provided as inputs to a Near-Field dispersion model to determine an emission rate associated with the gas emission and one or more source locations associated with the gas emission. The emission rate can be included in emission data and provided for output. Related apparatus, systems, techniques, and articles are also described.

FUEL SYSTEM TEST APPARATUS AND METHOD

A method that includes coupling an external, removable fuel pressurization system to a fuel system of a vehicle while the vehicle remains in a confined space. The fuel system of the vehicle is pressurized with the fuel pressurization system while the vehicle remains in the confined space and without activating an engine of the vehicle. Decay of pressure of the fuel system is monitored following pressurization of the fuel system, and one or more of a leak, or a replaceable component, of the fuel system of the vehicle is detected based on at least in part on the decay of pressure that are monitored.
