Method and Device for Controlling the Residual Gas Mass Remaining in the Cylinder of an Internal Combustion Engine After a Gas Exchange Process and/or the Purge Air Mass Introduced During a Gas Exchange Process
Various embodiments may include a method for controlling the residual gas mass remaining in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine after a gas exchange process and/or the purge air mass introduced into an exhaust manifold during a gas exchange process, the method comprising: specifying at least one of a desired residual gas mass or a purge air mass of the cylinder of the internal combustion engine; determining a setpoint position of an actuator which influences the specified mass, based on an inverse residual gas model; and setting the determined setpoint position of the actuator.
Air per cylinder determination systems and methods
An engine control system of a vehicle includes a cylinder control module a first air per cylinder (APC) module, an adjustment module, and a fuel control module. The cylinder control module determines a target fraction of activated cylinders of an engine. The first APC module determines a first APC value based on an intake manifold pressure and an air temperature. The adjustment module determines an APC adjustment value based on the target fraction of activated cylinders. The first APC module also determines a second APC value based on the first APC value and the APC adjustment value. The fuel control module controls fuel injection based on the second APC value and a target air/fuel mixture.
METHOD AND CONTROL DEVICE FOR DETERMINING A DESIRED INTAKE MANIFOLD PRESSURE OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for determining a desired intake manifold pressure of an internal combustion engine by means of an iterative method, wherein a cylinder charge is determined for an intake manifold pressure iterated during the iterative method, and the desired intake manifold pressure is determined as a function of the cylinder air charge that has been determined. In addition, a control device for carrying out the method is provided.
Inferential sensor
A system and an approach for determining various pressures or flows in an internal combustion engine, such as a pressure adjacent a recirculation exhaust gas flow through a controlled valve of an engine. Also, among the sensors accommodated in the system, is a pressure sensor sensing a pressure in an intake manifold of the engine.
BOOST CONTROL TECHNIQUES FOR A TURBOCHARGED ENGINE WITH SCAVENGING
Techniques for setting a boost target for a turbocharged engine comprise (i) operating the engine in a scavenging mode such that opening of intake and exhaust valves of cylinders of the engine overlap and (ii) while transitioning the engine in/out of the scavenging mode: determining an engine torque request, creating a torque reserve by setting independent targets for throttle inlet pressure (TIP) and intake manifold absolute pressure (MAP), determining a target TIP based on a target total air charge, engine speed, and a previously-determined target engine volumetric efficiency (VE), controlling a wastegate valve based on the target TIP, determining a target MAP based on the engine torque request, and controlling a throttle valve based on the target MAP. During steady-state scavenging operation, the controller calculates a conventional target TIP based on the engine torque request and controls the wastegate valve based on the conventionally calculated target TIP.
CONTROL APPARATUS FOR ENGINE
The control apparatus for an engine includes: a first controller that sets a valve-opening timing of an intake valve of the engine in response to an amount of intake air; and a second controller that sets an injection start time of a fuel injector of the engine in response to the amount of intake air. In a case where the amount of intake air is within a first range being equal to or more than a predetermined value, the first controller advances the valve-opening timing as compared with a case where the amount of intake air is equal to the predetermined value, and the second controller delays the injection start time as compared with a case where the amount of intake air is within a second range being less than the predetermined value.
Method and system for controlling supercharger of vehicle
A method for controlling a supercharger of a vehicle includes: determining, at a first determination step, whether or not an engine operates in a cylinder deactivation (CDA) mode; calculating, at a second determination step, a difference value between a target boost pressure of a turbocharger and a current boost pressure of intake air boosted by the turbocharger, and determining whether or not the difference value is equal to or greater than a reference difference value; determining, at a third determination step, based on a current operating condition of the engine whether or not the supercharger is allowed to operate; determining, at a fourth determination step, a target rpm of the supercharger, and determining whether or not the target rpm is equal to or greater than a reference rpm; and operating the supercharger at an operating step.
Method and systems for airflow control
Various methods and systems are provided for controlling emissions. In one example, a controller is configured to respond to a sensed or estimated intake oxygen fraction by controlling an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) amount supplied to an engine to maintain a level of particulate matter (PM) in a determined PM range and a level of NOx in a determined NOx range, and adjusting a target intake manifold oxygen fraction or target intake manifold EGR fraction in response to a NOx sensor feedback signal.
Methods and system for selecting a location for water injection in an engine
Methods and systems are provided for selecting a location for water injection during a water injection event based on engine operating conditions. In one example, a method may include selecting a location for water injection from each of an intake port of each cylinder, an intake manifold upstream of all engine cylinders, and directly into each cylinder based on engine operating conditions. Further, the method may include adjusting water injection at the selected location and engine operating parameters in response the evaporated and/or condensed portion of water.
METHOD AND CONTROLLER FOR DETERMINING THE QUANTITY OF FILLING COMPONENTS IN A CYLINDER OF AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for determining the quantity of filling components in a cylinder of an internal combustion engine. The cylinder is connected to an air supply via an inlet valve and to an exhaust gas conduit via an outlet valve. The method includes the steps of obtaining an exhaust gas back pressure at a specified point in time when the outlet valve is opened during a work cycle of the internal combustion engine and calculating the quantity of the filling components at the specified point in time on the basis of the obtained exhaust gas back pressure. A controller is also provided for carrying out the method and a motor vehicle is also provided that includes the controller.
