Detection of fuel injector failure systems and methods
A system includes one or more processors that are configured to obtain a measured fuel consumption rate for an internal combustion engine while the engine is operating at a predetermined operating condition to perform a mission. The one or more processors are also configured to compare the measured fuel consumption rate with an expected fuel consumption rate for the predetermined operating condition. Further, the one or more processors are configured to determine whether an injector flow limiter is in a latched condition based on the measured fuel consumption rate compared with the expected fuel consumption rate. Also, the one or more processors are configured to perform a responsive action responsive to determining that the injector flow limiter is in the latched condition.
Liquid filter fuel consumption estimation
A system and method for monitoring the negative impact of a filtration system on the fuel economy of an internal combustion engine. A filter monitoring controller receives engine operating parameters of the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring controller determines an amount of power generated by the internal combustion engine based at least in part on the engine operating parameters. The filter monitoring controller determines a filter hydraulic power consumption of a filtration system providing a fluid to the internal combustion engine. The filter monitoring controller determines a fuel economy impact of the filtration system on the internal combustion engine based at least in part on the filter hydraulic power consumption of the filtration system. The filter monitoring controller compares the fuel economy impact of the filtration system to a threshold fuel economy impact to determine whether a filter element of the filtration system requires servicing.
Fuel pressure estimation system
A storage device is configured to store a first mapping that receives, as an input, a first input variable including a cam phase variable on present and past phases of a cam, and output a pulsating variable on a pulsating component. The execution device is configured to acquire the first input variable and estimate the pulsating variable by applying the acquired first input variable to the first mapping. Therefore, it is possible to estimate the pulsating variable without providing a low-pressure fuel pressure sensor by estimating a fuel pressure variable by applying the first input variable to the first mapping.
METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A method for controlling an internal combustion engine controlled as a function of an operating-point setpoint, the method includes: determining whether a new operating-point setpoint is received, and if so determining the maximum capacity of the pump based on determined values of rotational speed of the engine, quantity of fuel injected, and fuel pressure in the common injection rail; determining fuel consumption flow rate; subtracting fuel consumption flow rate of the vehicle from the maximum capacity of the pump to obtain the remaining capacity of the fuel pump; determining the difference in fuel flow rate between the current operating point and the operating point of the new operating-point setpoint; and if the remaining capacity of the fuel pump is less than the difference in fuel flow rate, a reduced fuel flow rate gradient setpoint is emitted with the new operating-point setpoint or the quantity of fuel injected is limited.
Air-Fuel Metering for Internal Combustion Reciprocating Engines
A fuel metering system for an internal combustion engine having a fuel injection timing unit to indicate a timepoint during one or more engine strokes, a fuel metering element have a predetermined full stroke volume for metering fuel into an air-fuel mixing location during one or more of the engine strokes, and a fuel metering element controller to control the delivery of fuel by causing the fuel metering element to deliver one of a full stroke volume and a fraction of a full stroke volume to achieve a desired AFR. In some embodiments, power generator circuitry is provided to harvest power from the ICE to power at least one of the fuel injection timing unit, the fuel metering element, and the fuel metering controller.
Fuel pressure estimation system
A fuel pressure estimation system estimates a fuel pressure variable on a fuel pressure in a supply pipe for an engine apparatus including an engine having a fuel injection valve, and a fuel supply device having a fuel pump that supplies the fuel in a fuel tank to the supply pipe, and includes a storage device and an execution device. The storage device stores a first mapping that receives, as an input, first input variables including a pump variable, a consumption flow rate variable on a consumption flow rate of the fuel, and a property variable on a property of the fuel, and outputs the fuel pressure variable. The execution device acquires the first input variables and estimates the fuel pressure variable by applying the first input variables to the first mapping.
INDUSTRIAL VEHICLE WORK GUIDE SYSTEM
Disclosed is an industrial vehicle work guide system. An industrial vehicle work guide system according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a memory configured to store engine used data, a driving time, a fuel consumption amount, and reference fuel efficiency; a display module configured to output a guide message; and an analysis module configured to calculate actual fuel efficiency by using the engine used data, the driving time, and the fuel consumption amount, compare the actual fuel efficiency with the reference fuel efficiency, and control the display module so that the display module outputs a guide message when the actual fuel efficiency is lower than the reference fuel efficiency.
Heating Value Estimation
Exemplary embodiments include a method for analysis of fuel supplied to a combustion engine during operation of the engine. The method can include obtaining respective indications of a temperature of the fuel supplied to the engine and a density of the fuel supplied to the engine; deriving a temperature-adjusted fuel density based on the indicated density of fuel in dependence of relationship between the indicated temperature of the fuel and a predefined reference temperature; and deriving, based at least on the temperature-adjusted fuel density, a heating value that is descriptive of the amount of heat released during combustion of a predefined amount of the fuel.
Hybrid vehicle
A hybrid vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, electric motors, an electric supercharger, a battery, and a controller. The controller determines whether to increase a total electric power supply amount to the electric motor and the electric supercharger from the battery based on a state of charge of the battery. When so determined, electric power supply promotion control is performed to increase the total electric power supply amount from the battery. In the electric power supply promotion control, the controller controls the electric power supply amount to the electric motors and the electric supercharger so as to maximize fuel save rate, which is the percentage of decrease of the fuel consumption of an internal combustion engine relative to an increase in the total electric power supply amount from the battery.

The method comprises determining a fuel consumption based on a consumption-dependent variable and based on at least one standard value of a fuel material property. The method further comprises determining a fuel material property of the fuel used by the vehicle, calculating a correction value based on the determined fuel material property, and determining a corrected fuel consumption based on the determined fuel consumption and the correction value. In particular, the net CO.sub.2 emission or the greenhouse gas emission can be determined from the renewable share.
