INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, STATE DETERMINATION SYSTEM FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE, DATA ANALYSIS DEVICE, AND CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
An internal combustion engine includes a state determination device. The state determination device includes a storage device and an execution device. The execution device executes an acquisition process, and a determination process. The execution device executes a guard process of bringing an internal combustion engine state variable closer to an allowable range or a value within the allowable range when the internal combustion engine state variable acquired in the acquisition process is out of the predetermined allowable range. The execution device determines the state of the internal combustion engine based on the internal combustion engine state variable after the guard process in the subsequent determination process when the guard process is executed.
Method for ascertaining a maximum storage capacity of an exhaust gas component reservoir of a catalytic converter
A method and a control device for regulating a modeled fill level of an exhaust gas component reservoir of a catalytic converter of an internal combustion engine. Regulation of the modeled fill level is accomplished using a system model. An actual maximum storage capacity of the catalytic converter for the exhaust gas component is ascertained during operation of the internal combustion engine and is taken into consideration in regulating the modeled fill level.
CONTROLLER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
A controller for an internal combustion engine is configured to execute a rich air-fuel ratio control for performing fuel injection while setting a target equivalence ratio such that, at recovery from a fuel cutoff process, an air-fuel ratio of air-fuel mixture is richer than a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. The controller is configured to execute a target equivalence ratio setting process for setting the target equivalence ratio that is maintained during execution of the rich air-fuel ratio control such that the target equivalence ratio increases as an air excess ratio that is calculated from an output value of a second air-fuel ratio sensor at start of the rich air-fuel ratio control increases.
METHOD FOR OPERATING A DRIVE DEVICE AND CORRESPONDING DRIVE DEVICE
An internal combustion engine with a plurality of cylinders is a drive device in which the drive torque available can be reduced. The ignition timing which is set at the internal combustion engine is adjusted in the retarded direction starting from an initial ignition timing until the ignition timing corresponds to a threshold ignition timing. To reduce the drive torque further, at least one cylinder, among the plurality of cylinders, is deactivated by suspending fuel injection into the cylinder, and the remaining cylinder(s) continue to be operated with fuel injection using the ignition timing. The remaining cylinders of the internal combustion engine which continue to be operated are supplied with a quantity of fuel which is larger in comparison with an initial quantity of fuel present before the cylinder deactivation, to set a substoichiometric fuel/oxygen ratio.
DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE HAVING A CATALYTIC CONVERTER
A device and method for controlling an internal combustion engine having a catalytic converter. At least one actuating variable for the internal combustion engine is determined as a function of a system model of the catalytic converter and/or the internal combustion engine. The system model, a setpoint variable for the control and/or the actuating variable is adapted. Information about a modeled residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas downstream from the catalytic converter is determined using the system model. Information about an acquired residual oxygen content in the exhaust gas at the output of the catalytic converter is acquired. The information about the modeled residual oxygen content is compared with the information about the acquired residual oxygen content. A measure for an adaptation requirement is determined as a function of the result of the comparison.
Methods and system for skip-firing of an engine
Various methods and systems are provided for skip-firing an engine. As one embodiment, a method for an engine includes firing all cylinders of the engine and not altering the closing timing of the intake valves when fueling demands are greater than a threshold. The method further includes skip-firing the engine when fueling demands are less than a threshold, and holding open the intake valves of skipped cylinders for a greater duration than intake valves of firing cylinders.
METHOD OF RECOGNIZING DEACTIVATION OF AN EXHAUST GAS CATALYTIC CONVERTER
A method of recognizing deactivation of an exhaust gas catalytic converter is disclosed. For this purpose, coverage of storage sites of the exhaust gas catalytic converter with rich gas components is modeled (60) and the deactivation is recognized from a proportion of the occupied storage sites in a total number of storage sites.
Method and control unit for regulating a fill level of a reservoir of a catalytic converter for an exhaust gas component in coasting mode
A method for regulating a filling of an exhaust gas component reservoir of a catalytic converter in the exhaust of an internal combustion engine. An actual fill level of the exhaust gas component reservoir is ascertained using a first system model, and in which a baseline lambda setpoint for a first control loop is predefined by a second control loop in which an initial value for the baseline lambda setpoint is converted, by a second system model identical to the first system model, into a fictitious fill level; the fictitious fill level is compared with a setpoint for the fill level; and the baseline lambda setpoint is iteratively modified as a function of the comparison result. At the beginning of a coasting phase, the baseline lambda setpoint is calculated based on signals of sensors and control variables which relate to the delivery of air and/or fuel to combustion chambers.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ENGINE CONTROL
Methods and systems are provided for protecting an exhaust catalyst from degradation during a DFSO event. Exit from DFSO due to pedal input received from an operator with a jittery foot is averted by filtering the pedal input differently when operating in a DFSO mode as compared to when operating out of the DFSO mode. Exit from DFSO is confirmed after receiving a higher than threshold pedal position input for a sustained period of time, or when an integrated fuel injection amount exceeds a threshold amount.
METHOD OF ESTIMATING OXYGEN STORAGE CAPACITY OF CATALYST
A method of estimating the oxygen storage capacity of a catalyst includes providing an engine system having an internal combustion engine and an exhaust system having a catalyst and an oxygen sensor, providing a three-way catalyst observer model having a Kalman filter and a three-way catalyst kinetic model, estimating a three-way catalyst next time step state and a modeling error, linearizing the three-way catalyst observer model, filtering the estimated three-way catalyst next time step state, and calculating a covariance.
