The internal combustion engine is equipped with a cylinder and a cylinder head. The water jacket includes a lower water jacket having side passages surrounding the cylinder and connected together by a plurality of branches disposed over the cylinder head, so as to create the coolant flow crossing the space over the cylinder head.

Engine block assembly

An engine block assembly includes an engine block casting including a plurality of cylinder bores disposed in series, each cylinder having a cylinder wall. Outer engine block walls are peripheral to the cylinder walls. A channel is formed between outer peripheral surfaces of the cylinder walls and the outer engine block walls. A coolant passage fluidly connects through the outer block walls to the channel. A water jacket insert includes an upper flange, a strut portion and a lower flange. A plurality of orifices are formed in the strut portion. A compressible seal attached to the lower flange of the water jacket insert, which is assembled into the channel and conforms to a bottom portion of the channel.

ENGINE

An engine is disclosed of the V-configuration having an integrated engine and transmission. The engine has a crankshaft which directly couples to drive the water pump, oil pump and transmission clutch. The water pump has a drive shaft coupled to the crankshaft that extends across the crankcase from a first to a second side. The water pump includes a housing where at least a portion is defined in the face of the crankshaft.

COOLING STRUCTURE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

The cooling structure for internal combustion engine includes: a cylinder head including a fixing part for fuel injection valve of a cylinder-direct-injection type; a cylinder block; and a water jacket spacer. A surface on a cylinder block side of the cylinder head is recessed so as to be sectioned into a recessed coolant passage communicating with a block-side water jacket formed in the cylinder block. The recessed coolant passage surrounds periphery of the fixing part for the fuel injection valve. An edge on a cylinder head side of the water jacket spacer that is disposed in the block-side water jacket is provided with projection projecting toward the recessed coolant passage so as to direct at least part of the coolant flowing inside the block-side water jacket toward the recessed coolant passage.

Cooling system for an internal combustion engine

A cooling system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The engine has a cylinder block and a cylinder head. The cooling system includes a cylinder head cooling circuit and a cylinder block cooling circuit. The cylinder block cooling circuit includes cylinder block core prints channels on an upper portion thereof. The cylinder head cooling circuit includes a groove connected to an outlet of the cooling system and at least one cylinder block core print channel provided with at least one passage connecting the cylinder block cooling circuit with the groove.

Forming assembly and method to provide a component with a passageway

An exemplary forming assembly includes a mold having a cavity to form a component, and an insert having first, second, and third regions. The first region provides a first passageway opening in the component. The second region provides a second passageway opening in the component. The third region provides a passageway in the component. The insert is rotatable from a first position within the passageway to a second position outside the passageway. An exemplary component forming method includes positioning a material around an insert, curing the material to provide a component, and rotating the insert relative to the component from a first position where at least some of the insert is received within a passageway of the component to a second position where the entire insert is outside the passageway.

Reciprocating piston engine with liner

A reciprocating piston engine which has a cylinder block, at least one combustion chamber arranged in the cylinder block and a liner which borders the combustion chamber and is composed of a first material is provided. In one example, the reciprocating piston engine comprises a reinforcing element composed of a second material for the radial reinforcement of the liner, said reinforcing element being arranged between the cylinder block and the liner and at least partially surrounding the liner, with the second material having a higher modulus of elasticity than the first material.

Engine block of a diesel engine with integrated cylinder head, and casting method

An engine block of a diesel engine cast integrally with the cylinder head, with a number of cylinders in line, including an outer wall (21) and a cylinder wall (13) for each cylinder with a first cooling space (22) for a liquid cooling medium and with a second cooling space (25) on top of a cylinder ceiling (14) with openings (15,16) for gas exchange valves, the first cooling space (22) enclosing all the cylinder walls (13) entirely. In order to strengthen and cooling the vulnerable zone at the transition from cylinder wall (13) to cylinder ceiling (14) the first cooling space of adjacent cylinders forms a gap (23) with a width (35) constant or increasing from top to bottom.

A cooling water passage structure of internal combustion engine includes a cylinder-block-side cooling water passage, a cylinder-head-side cooling water passage, a heat exchanger, and cooling water passage pipes. The cylinder-block-side cooling water passage is formed inside a cylinder block of an engine to cause cooling water to flow through. The cylinder-head-side cooling water passage is formed inside a cylinder head to cause cooling water to flow through. The heat exchanger is configured to dissipate heat of cooling water to external air to decrease a temperature of the cooling water. The cooling water passage pipes couple the heat exchanger and the engine to exchange cooling water. The cylinder head includes a cooling water inlet. The cooling water passage pipe is coupled to the cooling water inlet. The cooling water from the heat exchanger flows into the cooling water inlet.
