A hydraulic lash adjuster for use in diesel engines including a cylinder head having a first valve, a second valve, and a valve bridge extending between and in contact with both the first valve and the second valve. Where the diesel engine includes a first rocker arm, and where at least one of the first valve and the second valve undergo an oil can valve deflection rate. The hydraulic lash is configured to selectively transmit force between the first rocker arm and the valve bridge, and where the hydraulic lash adjuster is normally in the open configuration, and where the hydraulic lash adjuster changes from the open configuration to a closed configuration at a critical velocity that is greater than the oil can valve deflection rate.

A cylinder head, where a pivot member configured to pivotably support a rocker arm is fastened with a bolt, is provided. The cylinder head includes a bottom wall part forming an inner bottom surface of a cam chamber that is a space where the rocker arm is disposed, and a side wall part forming an internal surface continuously rising from the inner bottom surface. A bolt hole into which the bolt is inserted is formed in the inner bottom surface. The side wall part has a protrusion protruding inward in the cam chamber from the internal surface at a position separated from the inner bottom surface, and a support hole configured to support the pivot member is formed in the protrusion.

MECHANICAL RETENTION MEMBER FOR VALVETRAIN COMPONENTS

A retention member is configured to be supported within a cylinder head of an engine and includes a body portion and a plurality of arms. The body portion has an opening configured to receive a fuel injector of the engine. Additionally, the plurality of arms extends from the body portion and is configured to be positioned over a portion of a cross-head of the engine. The plurality of arms is spaced apart from the cross-head during routine operation of the engine.

A six-stroke engine includes a cylinder, a piston, a cylinder head, a combustion chamber, an intake port, an exhaust port, an intake valve, an exhaust valve, a fuel injector, and an ignition plug. The six-stroke engine includes a valve gear that operates the intake valve and the exhaust valve to execute an intake stroke, a compression stroke with ignition, an expansion stroke with combustion, an exhaust stroke, an expansion stroke without combustion, and a compression stroke without ignition. The valve gear opens, only for a predetermined period of time while the piston is located at top dead center, at least one of the intake valve and the exhaust valve within a period from the exhaust stroke to the intake stroke. A valve overlap state is produced at least once within the period from the exhaust stroke to the intake stroke.
