Engine and emissions control system
A system for coordinated control of an engine and associated components over various engine-modes of operation. The system may include an engine, one or more components controllable to adjust operation of the diesel engine, and a system controller. The system controller may be connected to the engine and the one or more components. The system controller may include a supervisory controller and one or more component controllers. The supervisory controller may receive system control variable set points and coordinate component control variable set points for the components to achieve the system control variable set points. The component controllers may control operation of the components to achieve the control variable set points for the components by setting manipulated variable set points for the components based on the component control variable set points and a model based non-linear dynamic inversion.
System and method for starting an engine
Methods and systems for operating an engine with an electrically heated catalyst and an electrically driven compressor are described. In one example, the electrically driven compressor and the electrically heated catalyst are activated before an engine start so that vehicle emissions may be reduced more efficiently at engine starting and thereafter.
Engine secondary air and EGR system and method
An internal combustion engine system includes an engine, an air intake system configured to provide intake air to the engine, and an exhaust system configured to receive exhaust gas from the engine. The engine system further includes a secondary air system including a pump, an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, and a valve system operably associated with the secondary air system and the EGR system. The valve system is configured to operate in a secondary air mode where the pump is utilized to supply secondary air to the exhaust system, and an EGR mode where the pump is utilized to supply EGR to the air intake system.

HEATING OF AN EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION LINE DURING AN OVERRUN MODE OF A COMBUSTION UNIT
A method for operating an internal combustion engine, which comprises a combustion unit, a generator coupled with the combustion unit, a fresh gas tract, an exhaust tract, an exhaust gas recirculation line, which branches off of the exhaust tract and opens into the fresh gas tract, and at least one electrical heating device, which is integrated into the exhaust tract or into the exhaust gas recirculation line, characterized in that, during an overrun mode of the combustion unit, the heating device is operated with energy provided by the generator, and exhaust gas heated with the aid of the heating device is partially or completely guided via the exhaust gas recirculation line.
Engine device
During execution of a purge, a purge concentration-related value is learned based on an air-fuel ratio deviation that is a deviation of an air-fuel ratio detected by an air-fuel ratio sensor from a required air-fuel ratio. In this case, the purge concentration-related value is updated using an update amount with a smaller absolute value when the purge is a second purge of supplying evaporated fuel gas to an intake pipe through a second purge passage than when the purge is a first purge of supplying the evaporated fuel gas to the intake pipe through a first purge passage.

CAMSHAFT FOR INTERNAL-COMBUSTION ENGINE
A camshaft includes, as a cam that opens and closes an exhaust valve and an intake valve, a ball cam whose protrusion amount changes according to rotation of the camshaft, wherein the camshaft has a double structure consisting of an inner shaft and an outer shaft provided in a manner that the inner shaft is helically displaced with respect to the outer shaft around an axis of the camshaft according to a rotation speed of the camshaft, and the ball cam is accommodated movably in a guide groove provided in the inner shaft and protrudes from the outer shaft, and a protrusion amount of the ball cam from the outer shaft changes when the ball cam moves in the guide groove due to the helical displacement of the inner shaft with respect to the outer shaft.
