SNORKEL AND PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE FOR DUAL PATH COOL AIR INLET SYSTEM

An air intake assembly configured to direct air into a throttle body of an engine of an automotive vehicle includes an air cleaner enclosure, primary and secondary air intake ducts and a downstream air intake duct. The primary and secondary air intake ducts route air into the air cleaner enclosure through a first inlet. A method of directing the intake air into the throttle body is also provided. The air cleaner enclosure includes a valve that is configured to move from a closed position to an open position to draw air into the air cleaner enclosure through a second inlet. The valve is moved to the open position upon a pressure increase experienced within the air cleaner enclosure due to water intake. A snorkel has a snorkel inlet that is positioned at an elevation above the first and second inlets.

Fluid Conducting System

A fluid conducting system for transport of a fluid has a housing with an inlet for the fluid and an outlet for the fluid. A sensor is arranged in the housing or protrudes from an exterior into the housing and measures a mass flow or a volume flow of a fluid flow that is flowing through the housing from the inlet to the outlet. A filter element is arranged upstream of the sensor in the housing. A fluid channel section has an inlet cross section and an outlet cross section, wherein the fluid channel section is arranged upstream of and in front of the sensor and the outlet cross section adjoins the sensor. The fluid channel section has a tapering cross section tapering from the inlet cross section toward the sensor and accelerating at least a portion of the fluid flow and conducting the fluid flow to the sensor. The tapering cross section of the fluid channel section tapers constantly at least in an area of the outlet cross section in front of the sensor.

FILTER BOX ASSEMBLY FOR A BRANCHED INTAKE SYSTEM

A filter box assembly for a branched intake system in a vehicle includes an air filter and a filter box housing the air filter. The air filter has a downstream face. The filter box defines an airflow path between a dirty air intake opening and multiple clean air output openings, has a clean air section at the downstream face of the air filter from which each of the clean air output openings open, and includes an upright wall in the clean air section that branches the airflow path to each of the clean air output openings at the downstream face of the air filter.

Air induction system

An air induction system for delivering equal quantities of combustion air to an internal combustion engine has an air box assembly comprising a housing that defines a filter chamber that is configured to receive an air filter assembly, an air inlet that admits the fresh air into the housing and the filter chamber and outlets extending from the housing. The air filter assembly further comprises a filter media disposed between the air inlet and the outlets to define a filtered air chamber on a flow side of the filter media and a partition extending across the filtered air chamber to divide filtered, fresh air passing through the filter media into two flow paths, the divided flows paths exiting the housing and the filtered air chamber through the outlets.

System and Method for Improving Mass Air Flow Signal Quality

A filter assembly includes a conditioning device that conditions a flow of air upstream of a mass air flow sensor. The filter assembly includes a support frame. The filter assembly further includes a filter media coupled to the support frame, the filter media having a dirty side configured to receive a stream of air and a clean side configured to output a stream of air that has been filtered through the filter media. The filter assembly includes a conditioning device coupled to the support frame, the conditioning device positioned in a downstream direction from the clean side of the filter media with respect to the stream of air, the conditioning device offset from the clean side of the filter media by a separation distance.

Mass Airflow Sensor And Hydrocarbon Trap Combination

A combined mass airflow sensor and hydrocarbon trap is provided for absorbing evaporative hydrocarbon emissions from an air intake duct of an internal combustion engine. The combined mass airflow sensor and hydrocarbon trap comprises a duct that supports a hydrocarbon absorbing sheet in an unfolded configuration within a housing. The duct communicates an airstream from an air filter to the air intake duct during operation of the internal combustion engine. An opening in the housing receives a mass airflow sensor into the duct, such that the mass airflow sensor is disposed within the airstream. Guide vanes extending across the duct reduce air turbulence within the airstream passing by the mass airflow sensor. Ports disposed along the duct allow the evaporative hydrocarbon emissions to be drawn into the interior and arrested by the hydrocarbon absorbing sheet when the internal combustion engine is not operating.

AIR INTAKE SYSTEM

An air intake system for an internal combustion engine of a vehicle includes a main housing defining an interior chamber configured to receive an air filter, a cover seated on the main housing to enclose the air filter within the interior chamber, dual intake ducts fluidly coupled to the interior chamber and configured to provide cold intake air directly from a high pressure zone behind a vehicle grille, an air outlet formed in the main housing and configured to receive intake air that has passed through the air filter, and an air intake duct having a first end coupled to the air outlet and a second end configured to couple to a throttle body of the engine. The air intake system is configured to provide a short airflow path directly into the engine rather than through a tortuous path.
