The separation area receives particles from the air flow due to the centrifugal forces. A filter housing portion is located below a predefined or operation position for receiving particles from the air flow due to gravity, and an intake pipe is connected by an extraction line to a connecting pipe emerging on a filter housing and opening into the filter housing portion.

A precleaner system for an air intake system. The precleaner system includes precleaners each having flow paths that induce a rotation to air flow and separate out particulate matter. The particulate matter is ejected from an outlet port in each of the flow paths and out of a dust ejector. The precleaned air is collected into a plenum from each of the precleaners. The precleaned air can flow from the plenum to a precleaner system outlet and the precleaned air can be received by an air intake system. A cover can be used to block air flow through one of the precleaners to tune the precleaner system to the desired airflow.

Self-cleaning air filter system

A method of operating a cleaning process on a filter in a vehicle air intake includes passing air through the filter from an upstream side to a downstream side, and providing an exhaust duct having an inlet end adjacent the upstream side of the filter and an outlet end adjacent a cooling fan or other air-extraction device of the vehicle arranged to draw air through the exhaust duct from the inlet end to the outlet end. In a periodic cleaning subroutine, the rotational speed of the fan is increased from a first speed to a second speed, while a pulse of pressurized fluid is applied to a downstream side of the filter. The exhaust duct carries away material dislodged from the upstream side of the filter by the applied pulse, and the rotational speed of the fan is reduced to its original level.
