Bifurcated air induction system for turbocharged engines

An air induction system for a vehicle includes a turbocharger having a compressor side inlet and a bifurcated clean air intake system having a bifurcated conduit. The bifurcated conduit includes an upstream end configured to receive intake air, a downstream end configured to supply intake air to the compressor side inlet, an inner passage configured to supply intake air to the downstream end, and an outer passage disposed about the inner passage and separated from the inner passage by an inner wall, the outer passage configured to selectively receive recirculation backflow from the compressor side inlet. A port is fluidly coupled between the outer passage and another location of the vehicle. The port is configured to selectively evacuate at least a portion of the recirculation backflow to the another location the vehicle.

A surface of the light guide is etched with a design extending along a length of the airflow passage. An LED light generating unit is positioned adjacent an end of the light guide to pass light from the light generating unit through the light guide that illuminates the etched design.

A gasket arrangement for use between an intake manifold and a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine is provided. Individual runner grooves are formed around each of the manifold runner openings. A collective runner groove is formed around all of the individual runner grooves. A relatively compressible sealing gasket material is placed in each of the runner grooves and a barrier gasket material placed in the collective runner groove. The relatively compressible sealing gasket material provides an effective seal at low engine operating temperatures. The barrier gasket material provides an effective seal against the passage of hydrocarbons. The relatively compressible sealing gasket material is preferably silicone rubber. The barrier gasket material is preferably a fluorine elastomer having a high fluorine content of preferably at least 66.0%. Accordingly, the silicone gasket provides a seal while the fluorinated polymer gasket is relatively impermeable to hydrocarbons and satisfies emission requirements.

The air intake passage includes a first passage extending toward an upstream side from the compressor along a first direction, a bent portion bent from an upstream end of the first passage in a second direction, and a second passage extending from an upstream end of the bent portion along the second direction. The second passage has a vertically elongated cross-sectional shape. A vibration suppressing part for suppressing vibrations of the second passage is disposed in at least one of the second passage and the bent portion.

A turbo fitting is a funnel shaped device that is attached to an outgoing airflow port of an air filter intake enclosure and secured into an air flow line running to the input to a throttle body of an internal combustion engine. The inner diameter of the turbo fitting is reduced from its width at the air filter enclosure to its exit diameter in the air flow line. Air directional devices, which may be raised tabs or grooves, running the length of the inner surface of the turbo fitting. These air directional devices are oriented in a clockwise direction when viewed into the turbo fitting from the air filter enclosure end.

The flow channel is acoustically connected via the perforations and via the continuous openings to the chamber.

The combustion chamber includes a bulge projecting away from the piston crown, providing additional space for induction air flow.
