Fuel supply system and method for controlling a fuel pump of a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine

The subject matter described here relates to a method, a controller and computer program product for controlling a fuel pump of a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine, and a fuel supply system for an internal combustion engine. The problem to be solved is not being provided with an efficient fuel supply system capable of supplying various types of fuels without bubble formation under different environmental conditions. The method comprises the steps of measuring a pressure of a fuel in the fuel supply system by a first measuring means; measuring a temperature of the fuel by a second measuring means; measuring a physical parameter of the fuel by a third measuring means; determining, by a control unit, a fuel type based on the measured physical parameter of the fuel, a vapor pressure of the fuel based on the determined fuel type and the measured temperature, and a pressure amplitude of the measured pressure; calculating, by the control unit, a first target pressure value as a sum of the determined vapor pressure, the determined pressure amplitude and a predetermined pressure margin, and a pressure difference between the first target pressure value and a predetermined second target pressure value; and if the calculated pressure difference is greater than zero, adjusting, by the control unit, a control value for controlling an operating point of the fuel pump based on the calculated pressure difference.

ENGINE CONTROLLER

An engine controller includes a fuel supplier and one or more processors. The one or more processors determine, based on an operation state of an engine, whether an operation point of the engine is in an engine operation range where an amount of surplus fuel to be returned to a jet pump is smaller than a predetermined amount. Upon entry into the engine operation range, the one or more processors obtain an amount of remaining fuel in a sub-tank, based on a travel state of a vehicle, and accumulate an amount of fuel injection after the entry into the engine operation range, to obtain an accumulated amount of fuel injection. When the amount of remaining fuel in the sub-tank is smaller than the accumulated amount of fuel injection, the one or more processors put limitation on maximum torque for each engine speed of the engine.

A fuel supply system for an aircraft is provided for delivering in use fuel from a fuel tank to an aircraft powerplant. The in use fuel flows along a fuel flow passage from the fuel tank to the powerplant. A downstream pump is associated with the powerplant and configured to draw fluid along the fuel flow path so as to supply it to the powerplant in use. An upstream pump is disposed in or associated with the fuel tank and operable to pump fluid along the fuel flow passage. A pressure sensor is configured to monitor a pressure at an inlet to the downstream pump. A fuel system controller is responsive to the pressure sensor and configured to control the upstream pump so as to maintain the pressure at the inlet to the downstream pump at or above a predetermined threshold pressure.

In at least some implementations, a fuel system includes a first fuel pump and a first switch adapted to be coupled to a power supply, and a second fuel pump adapted to be coupled to the power supply. A conductor is provided between a first node between the first fuel pump and the first switch and a second node to which the second fuel pump is electrically coupled or electrically communicated so that depending upon the state of the first switch power may be supplied to the first fuel pump and second fuel pump in series or in parallel.
