SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING RESTART

A vehicle includes an engine, a start-stop system configured to stop and restart operation of the engine in response to predetermined triggers, and an auxiliary air conditioning AC system including a controller communicably coupled to the start-stop system. The start-stop system is configured to provide a first indication to the auxiliary AC system indicating ignition of the engine and a second indication to the auxiliary AC system after stopping the engine. The auxiliary AC system is configured to turn off the auxiliary AC system in response to receiving the first indication and restart the auxiliary AC system in response to receiving the second indication.

According to one or more aspects, a dual controller area network (CAN) is used to start a vehicle. A dual CAN bus network includes a first CAN (CAN1) bus and a second CAN (CAN2) bus. A transmission control unit (TCU) is in communication with an engine control unit (ECU) via the dual CAN bus network. The ECU controls actuation of a starter motor based on signals from the CAN1 bus and signals from the CAN2 bus sent by the TCU. Actuation of the starter motor places an engine of the vehicle in a starting mode.

System and method are disclosed for detecting and refreshing an aged battery in a vehicle with a start-stop system. An example vehicle includes an engine configured to operate in a start-stop mode and a power management system. The power management system is configured for determining that a charge acceptance value of a battery is below a threshold, responsively disabling the start-stop mode and displaying a message via a display, refreshing the battery and enabling the start-stop mode after refreshing the battery.

METHOD FOR MANAGING THE POWER SUPPLY OF AN ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT DURING THE STARTING PHASE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE

A method for managing the power supply of an electronic control unit during the engine starting phase of a motor vehicle, the electronic control unit including a microcontroller, wherein a command to start the engine indicating the start of the starting phase is detected; the frequency of operation of the microcontroller is reduced; this reduced frequency of operation of the microcontroller is maintained for as long as effective starting of the engine has not been acknowledged; and the frequency of operation of the microcontroller is re-established once effective starting of the engine has been acknowledged.

BRAKE RELEASE DETECTION SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATIC ENGINE RESTART
20180347530 · 2018-12-06 ·

An automatic engine stop-start system of a vehicle having an engine includes a controller in signal communication with the engine and configured to command automatically stopping and starting the vehicle engine, a first sensor in signal communication with the controller and configured to generate a first signal indicative of a grade of a road the vehicle is located on, and a master brake cylinder having a pressure sensor in signal communication with the controller, the pressure sensor configured to generate a pressure signal indicative of a master cylinder brake pressure. The controller is further configured to determine a pressure threshold based on the first signal and the pressure signal. When the pressure signal exceeds the pressure threshold, thereby indicating a driver is releasing a brake pedal of the vehicle, the controller commands automatically restarting the vehicle engine.
