Impeller wheel for a centrifugal turbocompressor
10865803 · 2020-12-15 · ·

An impeller wheel of a turbocompressor, for rotation about an axis, has an inflow cross-section for inflow of a process fluid into the impeller wheel, an outflow cross-section for outflow of the process fluid from the impeller wheel, a wheel disk that defines a hub-side deflection contour from the axial flow direction into the radial flow direction. Blades are applied to the wheel disk, which define flow channels through the impeller wheel, each blade defining a linear inner track and a linear outer track. A meridional angle is defined for each position of a track as the upstream included angle between a meridional plane through the position and a tangent on the track. So that the flow passes through the impeller wheel with improved efficiency, as far as possible without separation, a local extremum of the meridional angle of the inner track is defined.

A transport refrigeration system (20) is provided. The transport refrigeration system includes: a natural gas engine (26), a compressed natural gas storage tank (60), an artificial aspiration device (70) providing decompressed natural gas and compressed air to the natural gas engine, an electric generation device (24) powered by the natural gas engine and providing an electric output, and a refrigeration unit (22) electrically powered by the electric output of the electric generation device.

TURBOCHARGER HAVING ADJUSTABLE-TRIM CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR INCLUDING AIR INLET WALL HAVING CAVITIES FOR SUPPRESSION OF NOISE AND FLOW FLUCTUATIONS

A compressor for a turbocharger includes an inlet-adjustment mechanism in an air inlet for the compressor, operable to move between an open position and a closed position in the air inlet. The compressor housing upstream of the inlet-adjustment mechanism defines a series of acoustic cavities, and openings are defined in the compressor housing wall leading into the acoustic cavities. The openings and cavities are aimed at mitigating noise and flow pulsation in the air inlet caused when the inlet-adjustment mechanism is adjusted to the closed position to effectively reduce the inlet diameter approaching the compressor wheel.

Traction drive fuel cell pump
10788042 · 2020-09-29 ·

Disclosed is an air pump for a fuel cell that utilizes a speed-reduction traction drive so that a low speed electric motor can be used to drive a high-speed rotodynamic compressor. The rotodynamic compressor is an efficient air pump, but operates at high speeds that would require a specialized high-speed electric motor. The speed-reduction traction drive couples to the compressor and provides a low-speed output that is connected to a lower speed electric motor.

Dual seal arrangement for superchargers
10788041 · 2020-09-29 · ·

Disclosed is an embodiment of a dual seal arrangement for the high-speed shaft of a supercharger with a centrifugal compressor and a mechanical speed step-down transmission to the shaft. A ring located about the shaft splits the rotational speed of the shaft between two seals, so that each seal spins at a speed of roughly half the speed of the shaft. The arrangement can also be used to split the shaft speed between two bearings in the same manner. The high-speed shaft may also have a turbine attached, to form a driven turbocharger.

FLEXIBLE SUPPORT STRUCTURE FOR A GEARED ARCHITECTURE GAS TURBINE ENGINE

A gas turbine engine according to an example of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a fan shaft configured to drive a fan, a support configured to support at least a portion of the fan shaft, the support defining a support transverse stiffness and a support lateral stiffness, a gear system coupled to the fan shaft, and a flexible support configured to at least partially support the gear system. The flexible support defines a flexible support transverse stiffness with respect to the support transverse stiffness and a flexible support lateral stiffness with respect to the support lateral stiffness. The input defines an input transverse stiffness with respect to the support transverse stiffness and an input lateral stiffness with respect to the support lateral stiffness.

TURBOCHARGER HAVING ADJUSTABLE-TRIM CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR INCLUDING DIVERGENT-WALL DIFFUSER

A centrifugal compressor for a turbocharger includes an inlet-adjustment mechanism in an air inlet for the compressor, operable to move between an open position and a closed position in the air inlet. Movement of the inlet-adjustment mechanism from the open position to the closed position is effective to shift the compressor's surge line to lower flow rates. The compressor includes a diffuser extending between an exducer of the compressor wheel and a volute for collecting pressurized air from the compressor. The diffuser is defined between first and second walls that diverge from each other in a radially outwardly direction through the diffuser. The divergent-wall diffuser enhances the shift of the surge line to lower flow rates when the inlet-adjustment mechanism is put in the closed position.
