The compressor assembly may comprise a spiral housing with a flow channel which is designed to convey a fluid which can be sucked up from outside the compressor assembly, a compressor outlet flange which is fluidically connected to the spiral housing via the flow channel, and an injection device designed to introduce a fluid from outside the compressor assembly into the flow channel, wherein the injection device is arranged outside the flow channel of the spiral housing.

According to the present invention, the impeller inlet of a turbocharger compressor receives intake air from an inner channel and an outer channel. The outer channel is pressurized with an electrically powered secondary compressor. The pressurized air in the outer channel flows into the impeller near the outer wall of the impeller inlet. The pressurized air next to the outer wall of the impeller inlet prevents backflow of air out of the impeller and thereby prevents surge and enables the compressor to produce high boost pressures under small mass flow settings. Only a portion of the intake air is pressurized with the electrically powered secondary compressor, and the boost pressure of the electrical compressor is only a fraction of the turbocharger compressor's overall pressure ratio. Consequently, only a small amount of electrical power is required to drive the secondary compressor, thereby enabling conventional 12 volt batteries to be used to power the electrical compressor for almost all automotive applications.

A turbo-compressor comprises a compressor wheel having an attachment arrangement for attaching the wheel to a drive shaft. The attachment arrangement includes an axially extending spigot internally radially located in a bore in the drive shaft and secured to the drive shaft by fastening means into the rear of the compressor wheel. Thus the compressor wheel expands and tightens into the shaft at speed. Furthermore, the nose of the compressor wheel is free to accept an aerodynamic profile.

A radially inner end portion of the partition wall is located further on a radially inner side than a radially outer end portion of the flow-regulating vane, and further on a radially outer side than a boundary between the introduction flow channel and a curved flow channel.

A core flow through the casing is in a core flow direction and a recirculation flow through the plurality of covered channels is in a recirculation flow direction, the recirculation flow direction being counter to the core flow direction, and the inlet is at a position downstream relative to the outlet in the core flow direction.

The centrifugal compressor includes a ring and a controller for moving the ring along the longitudinal axis between a first position and a second position when rotating the inlet guide vanes. The ring obstructs at least one of the first and second openings more in the second position than in the first position.

The present application proposes an axial turbomachine compressor comprising a rotor with at least one annular row of rotor blades, a stator casing surrounding the row of rotor blades, the casing including a device for generating counter-vortexes. During operation of the compressor, the movement of the blades creates leakage vortexes at the blade tip. The generating device in turn injects counter-vortexes rotating in the opposite direction to the leakage vortexes in order to counter the leakage vortexes. This improves the surge margin of the compressor. The present application also provides a method for controlling the stability of a turbomachine compressor by counter-vortex injection.

A compressor includes a compressor housing defining a cavity, and a compressor wheel disposed in the cavity, the compressor housing defining an inlet for leading air into the compressor wheel, a discharge volute for receiving air compressed by the compressor wheel, and a recirculation duct connected to the inlet at a location upstream of the compressor wheel. A recirculation valve is disposed between the discharge volute and the recirculation duct for regulating air flow through the recirculation duct into the inlet. The recirculation duct defines multiple parallel channels, the multiple parallel channels respectively conducting multiple parallel streams of air from the recirculation valve into the inlet.
