Compressor or turbine with back-disk seal and vent

A turbine or compressor wheel mounted in a housing. The wheel is carried on two radial bearings both mounted in a wall of the housing. The wall has a venting orifice that is not impeded by moving parts such as bearings. The wall also has a circular seal member extending toward a back-disk of the wheel with only a very small clearance. The seal member is composed of a material significantly softer than the material of the wheel.

Submersible pumping system with a motor protector having a thrust runner, retention system, and passageway allowing gas flow from a lower region into an upper region

A system and methodology are provided for enhancing the life and usefulness of a thrust bearing assembly in a submersible pumping system component. The technique utilizes a thrust runner positioned adjacent a thrust bearing in the submersible pumping system component. The thrust runner is rotated relative to the thrust bearing via a shaft. Gas that may accumulate in a lower region beneath the thrust runner is vented through a passageway from the lower region to an upper region above the thrust runner. The gas is vented to help maintain a hydrodynamic fluid film between the thrust runner and the thrust bearing.

A shaft bearing device for a pump includes an antifriction bearing, which can be connected to an axially displaceable pump shaft. A spring is arranged at the antifriction bearing in such a way, that a spring force can be transmitted to an outer ring of the antifriction bearing by the spring in a mounting condition of the shaft bearing device. A lifting element attached to the pump shaft and a corresponding counter element are separated from each other by the spring force in a starting state and/or in a shutdown state of the pump.

Intermediate bearing in electrical submersible pump

A submersible well fluid pump has diffusers non-rotatably mounted in a pump housing. A drive shaft rotates an impeller between each of the diffusers. A bearing is positioned between and in abutment with two of the diffusers. An annular recess encircles an outer wall of the bearing. A wave spring has undulations with inward protruding indentations in contact with a base of the recess and outward protruding indentations in engagement with an inner wall of the housing. The wave spring is split and radially compressed between the base of the recess and the housing inner wall.

UPTHRUST PROTECTION IN ELECTRIC SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS

An electric submersible pump assembly with upthrust protection is described. The described pump assembly, modules, and components may be used for operating an electric submersible pump at high speeds as well as over a wide range of speeds and flowrates without replacing downhole equipment. The described pump assembly may be shorter than comparable pump assemblies and may be assembled offsite, thereby leading to faster and easier installation with less down time. By operating over a wide range of speeds, the disclosed pump assembly allows the operator to reduce overall inventory, reduce down time for the well, and avoid other complications associated with replacing a pump assembly or other downhole components.

A subsea fluid processing system includes an electric motor that rotates a shaft on which impellers are fixedly mounted. Diffusors are static and fixed to the pump housing. The electric motor includes a rotor surrounding the shaft and a stator that is filled with a dielectric stator fluid. The stator is sealed or “canned.” The inner surface of the stator which faces the rotor is canned with a canning non-metallic material. The motor, as well as bearings for the rotating shaft are lubricated and cooled with a fluid that in some cases is taken from the process fluid and some alternative source. Alternative sources include: MEG, methanol, treated seawater and untreated seawater.

Provided is an electric water pump in which a portion of a fluid discharged from the vicinity of an outer peripheral edge of an impeller flows between the impeller and a lower casing, flows between a rotor and the lower casing, flows between a shaft and the rotor along a channel formed inside the rotor, and then flows to an inlet side of the impeller such that the fluid circulates outside and inside the rotor, and thus, foreign matters contained in the fluid do not accumulate in an accommodation space between the rotor and the lower casing, and thus, efficiency and durability of a motor can be improved.

Active thrust management of a turbopump within a supercritical working fluid circuit in a heat engine system

Aspects of the invention disclosed herein generally provide a heat engine system, a turbopump system, and methods for lubricating a turbopump while generating energy. The systems and methods provide proper lubrication and cooling to turbomachinery components by controlling pressures applied to a thrust bearing in the turbopump. The applied pressure on the thrust bearing may be controlled by a turbopump back-pressure regulator valve adjusted to maintain proper pressures within bearing pockets disposed on two opposing surfaces of the thrust bearing. Pocket pressure ratios, such as a turbine-side pocket pressure ratio (P1) and a pump-side pocket pressure ratio (P2), may be monitored and adjusted by a process control system. In order to prevent damage to the thrust bearing, the systems and methods may utilize advanced control theory of sliding mode, the multi-variables of the pocket pressure ratios P1 and P2, and regulating the bearing fluid to maintain a supercritical state.
