GAS TURBINE ENGINE WITH RING DAMPER

A damper seat for a ring damper that redirects axial loads and is disposed within a gas turbine engine with at least one disk rotatable about a rotational axis and having a disk neutral axis extending radially from the rotational axis.

REAL TIME ROTATION BREAKAWAY DETECTION

A system and method for detecting the rotation breakaway of a spacer from a compressor rotor disk are disclosed herein. The method includes detecting a disk sensed feature and a spacer sensed feature on the compressor rotor disk and the spacer respectively. The method also includes comparing the timing between the two to a predetermined threshold to determine whether the relative position of the spacer to the compressor rotor disk exceeds a predetermined amount. The predetermined amount may be selected to determine whether an imbalance, rubbing, or binding can occur in the gas turbine engine or to determine whether anti-rotation features have been broken.

Vacuum pump, stator column, base, and exhaust system of vacuum pump

The present invention provides a vacuum pump that measures the temperature of a rotating portion accurately and at low cost, a stator column of the vacuum pump, a base, and an exhaust system of the vacuum pump at low cost. The vacuum pump according to the present embodiment, the thread groove-type seal for causing some of the purge gas to flow back toward the temperature sensor unit is provided on the downstream side of the purge gas flow path in which the temperature sensor unit is disposed, thereby increasing the pressure of the purge gas in the vicinity of the temperature sensor unit. Thus, with the small amount of purge gas, the gas pressure around the temperature sensor unit can create an intermediate flow or a viscous flow. Consequently, the total amount of purge gas to be supplied can be saved, resulting in cost reduction.

METHOD FOR CLEARANCE CONTROL IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE

A gas turbine engine, system, and method with clearance control are provided. For example, the gas turbine engine includes a static component, and a rotating component that shifts axially in one of an aft direction and a forward direction in relation to the static component during a first operating condition of the gas turbine engine, and shifts axially in the other of the aft direction and the forward direction in relation to the static component during a second operating condition of the gas turbine engine. The first operating condition is when a rotating component growth and a static component growth change at different rates. The second operating condition is when the rotating component growth and static component growth normalize.

Bearing Outer Race Retention During High Load Events

A retention housing for the outer race of a bearing of a gas turbine engine includes a spring finger housing connected to and overlying a bearing housing that is connected to the outer race of the bearing. The spring finger housing includes an arrangement of spring fingers that yields a lightweight housing capable of withstanding very high radial loads combined with very high torsional windup and axial thrust load. Dowel pins extending radially from the bearing housing and through the engine's interface shell limit the deflection and self-arrest the distortion of the housing. A gas turbine engine includes the retention housing described above.

Gas turbine engine with axial movable fan variable area nozzle

A turbofan engine includes fan section including a plurality of fan blades, a gear train, a low spool including a low pressure turbine and a low pressure compressor, the low pressure turbine driving the plurality of fan blades through the gear train, and a high spool including a high pressure turbine driving a high pressure compressor. A fan nacelle at least partially surrounds a core nacelle to define a fan bypass flow path. A fan variable area nozzle is in communication with the fan bypass flow path and defines a fan nozzle exit area between the fan nacelle and the core nacelle. The fan variable area nozzle varies the fan nozzle exit area.

At least one of the workpieces includes an oxide dispersion strengthened alloy material and the first and second work pieces may be joined by welding a cladding on at least one of the workpieces to the other of the workpieces, without welding a substrate of the at least one workpiece which includes an oxide dispersion strengthened alloy material.

Tolerance resistance coverplates

A gas turbine engine component assembly comprises a first component and a second component circumferentially spaced from the first component relative to an engine center axis. A first baffle is associated with the first component. A second baffle is associated with the second component. Each of the first and second baffles includes at least one radial baffle tab. A gap is between the first and second baffles to define a cooling air inlet. A first coverplate is associated with the first baffle to cover a first portion of the gap. A second coverplate is associated with the second baffle to cover a second portion of the gap. The first and second coverplates are separate from each other, and include at least one coverplate radial tab that cooperates with an associated at least one baffle radial tab to prevent leakage gaps between the first and second baffle plates and the first and second coverplates.
