System and Method for Protecting Wind Turbines During Extreme Wind Direction Change
A method for protecting a wind turbine from an extreme change in wind direction includes receiving a wind direction and/or a wind speed at the wind turbine. When a change in the wind direction or the wind speed exceeds a predetermined threshold, the method includes determining a margin to stall and/or zero lift of the at least one rotor blade of the wind turbine as a function of an angle of attack or change in the angle of attack at a blade span location of at least one rotor blade of the wind turbine. The method also includes implementing a corrective action for the wind turbine (without shutting down the wind turbine) when the margin to stall and/or zero lift exceeds a predetermined value so as to avoid stall and/or negative lift on the at least one rotor blade during operation of the wind turbine.
Wind turbine blade measurement system and a method of improving accuracy of a wind turbine blade measurement system
A wind turbine blade measurement system for optically determining a torsion of a wind turbine blade is disclosed. The wind turbine blade measurement system comprises: a wind turbine blade, which is configured to be mounted to a hub of a wind turbine, a first camera, and an auxiliary camera. The first camera is mounted in a fixed position on a support structure on an exterior surface of the root section of the wind turbine blade and arranged so as to measure along the spanwise direction of the wind turbine blade. The auxiliary camera is arranged at a position outside of the wind turbine blade, the auxiliary camera being arranged so as to being able to carry out measurements of a plurality of sets of markers arranged on the surface of the wind turbine blade and an orientation of at least one of the support structure and the first camera.
System and method for monitoring health state of offshore wind power wind turbine and sound waves of sea waves
An acoustic monitoring system and method for the health status of an offshore wind turbine and an ocean wave are provided. The acoustic monitoring system includes a first laser transmitter, a second laser transmitter, a telephoto camera provided at a hub, a vibration detection sensor provided on a tower of a wind turbine, and four acoustic detection sensors arranged at an interval of 90? along the circumference of the tower. The first and second laser transmitters are arranged at the bottom of a nacelle of the wind turbine and emit laser lights vertically downward. The first laser transmitter, the second laser transmitter, the telephoto camera, the vibration detection sensor, and the acoustic detection sensors are connected to a data acquisition and conversion module through a transmission module. The acoustic monitoring system combines laser light detection with acoustic signal feature detection to improve stability and safety of the offshore wind turbine.
Avian Detection Systems and Methods
Provided herein are detection systems and related for detecting moving objects in an airspace surrounding the detection system. In an aspect, the moving object is a flying animal and the detection system comprises a first imager and a second imager that determines position of the moving object and for moving objects within a user selected distance from the system the system determines whether the moving object is a flying animal, such as a bird or bat. The systems and methods are compatible with wind turbines to identify avian(s) of interest in airspace around wind turbines and, if necessary, take action to minimize avian strike by a wind turbine blade.
WIND FARM AIRCRAFT BEACON SYSTEM AND WIND FARM HAVING SAID SYSTEM AS WELL AS METHOD FOR PROVIDING A WIND FARM WITH A BEACON
A wind farm aircraft beacon system and also to a wind farm with such a wind farm aircraft beacon system and to a method for beaconing a wind farm. A plurality of aircraft beacon devices and also at least one camera for receiving images and an evaluation device for detecting flying object positions. The evaluation device detects flying object positions by evaluating the camera data, in particular images recorded. Furthermore, the wind farm aircraft beacon system comprises a switching device for switching on or off at least one of the aircraft beacon devices in dependence on the flying object positions detected by the evaluation device.
Method for replacing the blades of a wind turbine to maintain safe operation
In a wind turbine of the type including a tower and a nacelle with the rotor being rotatably connected to the nacelle for rotating about a rotor axis and having a plurality of equally spaced blades, there is provided a method of detecting damage to a rotor requiring replacement. The method includes positioning video cameras on each of the blades at a root of a respective one of the blades so as to provide a line of sight of the camera along the respective one of the blades to the tip to obtain a video image of the rotor and tip as they rotate. From the videos an analysis is carried out of the images of the tip at a common location spaced away from the tower to determine a position of the tip and hence the deflection of the tip which is indicative of damage.
