Stump grinder with laterally offset grinding arm operated by single joystick
10117388 · 2018-11-06 · ·

A stump grinder has a grinding arm that durably mounts a rotatable grinding wheel by securing the drive shaft of a motor to the grinding wheel such that a pair of bearings within the motor support one side of the grinding wheel and by supporting the other side of the grinding wheel with a stub shaft received within a third bearing. The grinding arm is laterally offset on the frame of the stump grinder to have a swing angle that is not symmetrical relative to the width of the frame, but with the swing angle starting at one side of the frame and then traversing across substantially the entire width of the frame to improve the ability of the operator to see the grinding wheel. A single joystick is movable in orthogonal directions corresponding to desired up and down and side-to-side pivoting motions of the grinding arm. The joystick includes a depressible trigger for starting and stopping the operation of the grinding wheel.

The system includes a cutting disc and a holder having a connector and a socket. The holder is secured to the cutting disc without welding. The socket is configured for securement of a cutting tooth onto the cutting disc.

Material reducing apparatus including an automatically positioned thrown object deflector

The present disclosure relates to a material reducing apparatus adapted to be coupled to a vehicle by a pivot arm or other structure. The material reducing apparatus includes a reducing head with rotary reducing component. The reducing head can be titled about a tilt axis relative to the vehicle and can be raised and lowered relative to a vehicle. The reducing head has a thrown object deflector that automatically moves relative to the rotary reducing component when the reducing head is tilted relative to the vehicle.

STUMP AUGER

The present concept is a stump auger used for cutting and destroying a tree stumps, the stump auger includes a main shaft connected at a top end to a drive mechanism for turning the shaft about a vertical axis, wherein the main shaft is connected at a bottom end to a cone top such that the cone is part of the main shaft. The stump auger cone includes a spiral thread extending about the outer surface of the cone from the cone top to the cone bottom. The stump auger further includes at least two boring bars connected to the main shaft, each boring bar includes at least two third blades which include a blade edge on a front face for shaving, cutting and chipping the tree stump as the stump auger is rotated about the vertical axis and penetrates the tree stump. Each third blade includes a planar bottom surface spaced from a planar top surface, an inner face spaced from an outer face, the front face spaced from a back face, and wherein the outer face of the first third blade abuts at least partially with the inner face of the second third blade such that the bottom surface of the first third blade lies along a first plane A and the bottom surface of the second third blade lies along a second plane B such that plane B is a distance D vertically higher along the vertical z-axis, and wherein successive third blades lie along successive planes each higher along the vertical z-axis. The outer face and inner face of each third blade are rigidly connected together.

Various improvements to stump cutting tool discs and elements thereof

The present invention relates to grinding tools and, more particularly, to outdoor grinding tools, and also more particularly to rotating disc assemblies (including a disc, bit subassembly, and cutting bit shield/guard assembly). The rotating disc assembly can be used for grinding tree stumps, among other things.

Stump grinding wheel with reverse spiral teeth

A stump grinding wheel assembly having a disk-like wheel body. A plurality of bilateral mounting stations integral with the wheel body and arranged into spiral cluster groups. Each spiral cluster having an inner mounting station and at least one middle mounting station and an outer mounting station. The inner mounting stations are thicker than the middle mounting stations, which are thicker than the outer mounting stations. A pair of opposing side-cutters are disposed on each left and right side of the mounting stations. A separate plunge-cutter may be included with each spiral cluster. The bilateral mounting stations produce conically-helical cutting paths using identical side-cutters. The unequal width of the inner and middle and outer mounting stations enables better management of cutting forces in side cutting mode, which produces smoother operation.

The present invention is generally directed to a bit assembly that includes, but is not limited to: a bit securing sub-assembly including a bit holder member that defines a recess having a first portion extending in a first direction, and a second portion extending from the first portion along a second direction that is not parallel to the first direction; a bit mechanically connected to the bit holder member and positioned within the recess by a fastening hardware that extends through co-axially aligned holes formed in the bit holder member and the bit; and a bit shielding sub-assembly comprising a bit shielding member mechanically connected to and extending from the second portion of the bit holder in a third direction that is substantially parallel to and spaced from the first direction; wherein the bit shielding member is structured, positioned, and/or located to at least partially shield the bit in the first direction.

STUMP CUTTER DISC WITH RECESSED TOOTH POCKETS
20180168115 · 2018-06-21 ·

One stump cutter cutting wheel disclosed herein includes a wheel structure having left and right sides and being rotatable about a central axis extending between the left and right sides. The left and right sides define receptacles having depths measured in an orientation extending along the axis. Cutter assemblies are mounted to the wheel structure and include cutters mounted to cutter holders. The cutter holders include base portions that fit within the receptacles, and the base portions each define at least one fastener opening. The base portions further define base thicknesses measured in the orientation extending along the axis. The receptacle depths are at least 0.25 times as large as the base thicknesses such that no more than 75 percent of the base thicknesses extend laterally outside the receptacles. Fasteners secure the cutter holders to the wheel structure and extend through the fastener openings defined by the base portions.
