An example apparatus disclosed herein includes a plate including an aperture, the airfoil disposed in the aperture, and a damper operatively coupled between the plate and a hub of the airfoil, the damper to transform flexural deflection of the airfoil to radial deflection of the plate.

Aeronautical propulsion system having a low leakage flow rate and improved propulsion efficiency

A propulsion system includes a drive shaft movable about an axis of rotation, a fan, a fan shaft that drives the fan, and a reduction device coupling the drive shaft and the fan shaft. The reduction device has first and second reduction stages and includes a sun gear, centered on the axis and driven by the drive shaft, a ring gear that is coaxial with the sun gear and that drives the fan shaft about the axis, and planet gears distributed circumferentially about the axis between the sun gear and the ring gear. Each planet gear includes a first portion meshed with the sun gear and a second portion meshed with the ring gear. A diameter of the first portion is different from a diameter of the second portion, and the first portion of the planet gears extend between the second portion of the planet gears and the fan.

An electronic controller for an engine and a propeller, a control system and related methods are described herein. The controller comprises a first channel and a second channel independent from and redundant to the first channel. Each channel having a control processor configured to receive first engine and propeller parameters and to output, based on the first engine and propeller parameters, at least one engine control command comprising instructions for controlling an operation of the engine and at least one propeller control command comprising instructions for controlling an operation of the propeller. Each channel also comprises a protection processor configured to receive second engine and propeller parameters and to output based on the second engine and propeller parameters, at least one engine protection command comprising instructions for protecting the engine from hazardous conditions and at least one propeller protection command comprising instructions for protecting the propeller from hazardous conditions.

A turbomachine engine can include a fan assembly, a vane assembly, a core engine, a gearbox, and an overall engine efficiency rating. The fan assembly can include a plurality of fan blades. The vane assembly can include a plurality of vanes, and the vanes can, in some instances, be disposed aft of the fan blades. The core engine can include a low-pressure turbine. The gearbox includes an input and an output. The input of the gearbox is coupled to the low-pressure turbine of the core engine and comprises a first rotational speed, the output of the gearbox is coupled to the fan assembly and has a second rotational speed, and a gear ratio of the first rotational speed to the second rotational speed is within a range of 2.0-4.0. The overall engine efficiency rating is greater than or equal to 0.35GR.sup.1.5 and less than or equal to 0.7GR.sup.1.5.

Apparatuses and systems are provided herein for unducted propulsion systems. The system includes a forward housing for high efficiency for high subsonic sustained flight. A plurality of blades are affixed to the forward housing, wherein the forward housing defines a flowpath curve extending from the forward-most end of the forward housing through the axial extent of a forward blade root. The flowpath curve is described by an axial direction parallel to an axis of rotation and a radius from the axis of rotation. The flowpath curve includes a first point having a first radius where the radius reaches a maximum forward of the forward blade root and a second point aft of the first point having a second radius where the radius stops decreasing. The ratio of the first radius to the second radius is greater than or equal to 1.029.

LAYERED FUSELAGE SHIELD

An aircraft defining a longitudinal direction and a lateral direction is provided. The aircraft includes: a fuselage; an engine mounted at a location spaced from the fuselage of the aircraft, the engine comprising a plurality of rotor blades; and a fuselage shield attached to or formed integrally with the fuselage at a location in alignment with the plurality of rotor blades along the lateral direction, the fuselage shield comprising a first layer defining a first density and a second layer defining a second density, the first density being different than the second density.
