Overlapping herringbone filmhole patterned airfoil
An airfoil having an overlapping herringbone filmhole pattern is disclosed. For instance, the airfoil may have filmholes arranged in filmrows, each filmrow divided into groups of filmholes. A first group may be oriented to direct cooling air generally radially outward over a surface of the airfoil and a second group may be oriented to direct cooling air generally radially inward over a surface of the airfoil. Between the first group and the second group of filmholes in each filmrow, a transition region exists. A transition region filmrow group may be disposed within the transition region and may be co-linear with or staggered relative to the first group and/or the second group. In this manner, the transition region filmrow group enhances the effectiveness of the cooling proximate to the transition region.
COMPOSITE LAYER SYSTEM HAVING AN ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED SUBSTRATE AND A CERAMIC THERMAL PROTECTION SYSTEM
A composite layer system is presented. The composite layer system includes a metallic substrate, a structured surface, and a thermal protection system. The structured surface may be additively manufactured onto the metallic substrate and includes structured surface features formed to project above the metallic substrate. Each of the structured surface features are separated from adjacent structured surface features by grooves. The thermal protection coating may be thermally sprayed onto the structured surface and is bonded to each of the structured surface features.
Method for manufacturing a composite guide vane having a metallic leading edge
A method of manufacturing a composite guide vane with a metallic leading edge includes receiving a layup of fiber-reinforced composite sheets of continuous, substantially parallel and non-interlaced fibers impregnated with a resin. A vane body is formed from the layup of sheets. The vane body includes a body mid portion for interacting with a fluid and a body end portion. The method includes applying a metallic sheath on part of the vane body. The metallic sheath defines a leading edge of the guide vane. The method includes overmolding a head or a foot of the guide vane onto part of the vane body and onto part of the metallic sheath.
VANE MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL COMPRISING METALLIC REINFORCEMENTS, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SUCH A VANE
A method for manufacturing a blade made of composite material for a turbine engine, in particular of an aircraft, the steps of injecting a resin in order to impregnate a fibrous preform woven in three dimensions and polymerizing the resin so as to form the blade that includes an airfoil, one longitudinal end of which is connected to a platform. The platform includes pressure and suction portions connected to the airfoil by a fillet, wherein a separation is formed in the fibrous preform between the pressure and suction portions. The method further includes reinforcing a leading edge of the airfoil; and reinforcing the fillets by integration of a metal reinforcement on at least one part of the pressure and suction portions of the platform and in the separation.
Hybrid airfoil for a gas turbine engine
A hybrid airfoil according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a leading edge portion made of a first material, a trailing edge portion made of a second material, and an intermediate portion between the leading edge portion and the trailing edge portion made of a non-metallic material. A rib is disposed between the leading edge portion and the intermediate portion. A protrusion of one of the rib and the intermediate portion is received within a pocket of the other of the rib and the intermediate portion.
SYSTEM FOR AN IMPROVED STATOR ASSEMBLY
An improved stator assembly is disclosed. The stator assembly may comprise an exit guide vane, an OD ring, and an ID ring. The exit guide vane may couple at one end to the OD ring and at an opposite end to the ID ring. The exit guide vane may comprise a leading edge opposite of a trailing edge. The OD ring and the ID ring may couple to a diffuser assembly of a gas turbine engine. The stator assembly may further comprise an aft OD seal, a forward OD seal, an ID seal, and a diffuser assembly seal to reduce airflow leaks around the stator assembly.
Airfoil core inlets in a rotating vane
A component for a gas turbine engine includes an airfoil, including therein a first cavity and a second cavity, and an outer spindle extending from the airfoil, the outer spindle including a first channel in fluid communication with the first cavity and a second channel in fluid communication with the second cavity.
FLARED CENTRAL CAVITY AFT OF AIRFOIL LEADING EDGE
A blade includes an airfoil defined by a pressure side outer wall and a suction side outer wall connecting along leading and trailing edges and form a radially extending chamber for receiving a coolant flow. A rib configuration may include: a leading edge transverse rib connecting the pressure side outer wall and the suction side outer wall and partitioning the radially extending chamber into a leading edge passage within the leading edge of the airfoil and a central passage adjacent to the leading edge passage. One or both camber line ribs connect to a corresponding pressure side outer wall and suction side outer wall at a point aft of the leading edge transverse rib causing the central passage to extend towards one or both of the pressure side outer wall and the suction side outer wall, resulting in a flared center cavity aft of the leading edge.
AIRFOIL WITH COOLING PASSAGE NETWORK HAVING ARCED LEADING EDGE
An airfoil includes an airfoil section that has an airfoil wall that defines an arced leading end, a trailing end, and first and second sides that join the arced leading end and the trailing end. The first and second sides span in a longitudinal direction between first and second ends. The airfoil wall circumscribes an internal core cavity. There is an arced rib in the internal core cavity. A cooling passage network is embedded in the airfoil wall between inner and outer portions of the airfoil wall. The cooling passage network has a trailing edge and an arced leading edge.
Turbine exhaust cylinder strut strip for shock induced oscillation control
An arrangement to control vibrations in a gas turbine exhaust diffuser is provided. The arrangement includes a protrusion coupled to a turbine exhaust cylinder strut for controlling shock induced oscillations in a gas turbine diffuser. The controlled shock induced oscillations minimize pressure fluctuations in the gas turbine exhaust diffuser such that an unsteadiness of the fluid flow surrounding the turbine exhaust cylinder strut is reduced. A method to fluid flow induced vibrations in a gas turbine diffuser is also provided.
