Preform crossovers for composite airfoils
A method of forming a ceramic matrix composite component having an internal cooling circuit includes wrapping at least a first sheet around a first mandrel, wrapping at least a second sheet around a second mandrel, creating a first plurality of holes in the first sheet corresponding to a plurality of openings in the first mandrel, creating a second plurality of holes in the second sheet corresponding to a plurality of openings in the second mandrel, aligning the first mandrel and the second mandrel such that the first plurality of holes face and are aligned with the second plurality of holes, wrapping at least a third sheet around both the first mandrel and second mandrel to form a preform, the preform comprising each of the first sheet, the second sheet, and the third sheet, and densifying the preform. The first sheet, second sheet, and third sheet are formed from a ceramic fiber material.
Low-noise blade for an open rotor
A blade for an open rotor includes a pressure side and a suction side, the pressure side and the suction side intersecting at a leading edge and a trailing edge, wherein for at least 30% of a span of the blade, the meanline of the airfoil section is shaped such that a relative curvature parameter is greater than 1.75 in a first region, less than 0.75 in a second region, and greater than 1.2 in a third region, wherein the relative curvature parameter of a region is defined by Δζ.sub.n/Δζ.sub.tot/Δ(x/c).sub.n wherein ζ corresponds to the inverse tangent of the slope of a meanline curve, subscript n indicates the region, and x/c is a chordwise location normalized by the chord, and wherein the first region comprises at least x/c=0.0 to 0.10 and the third region comprises at least x/c=0.85 to 1.0.
Gas turbine engine inlet
A gas turbine engine that includes a fan nacelle and a core nacelle that provide a bypass flow path radially between. The fan nacelle has an inlet including a throat. The inlet has an inlet forward-most point. A fan is arranged in the bypass flow path and rotatable about an axis. The fan has a leading edge recessed from the inlet forward-most point an inlet length in an axial direction. A spinner has a spinner length from a spinner forward-most point to the leading edge. A ratio of the spinner length to inlet length is equal to or greater than about 0.5.

COOLING SCHEMES FOR AIRFOILS FOR GAS TURBINE ENGINES
Airfoils and core assemblies for such airfoils are described. The airfoils include a leading edge cavity defined, in part, by a leading edge interior rib and a trailing edge cavity defined, in part, by a trailing edge interior rib. A plurality of pressure side cavities are defined by pressure side skin cavity walls with at least one pressure side skin cavity wall not extending to the suction side wall. A plurality of suction side cavities are defined by suction side skin cavity walls with at least one suction side skin cavity wall not extending to the pressure side wall. A main body cavity extends between the leading edge interior rib and the trailing edge interior rib and the plurality of side cavities are arranged in a staggered pattern to define the bounds of the main body cavity.
AIRFOILS FOR A FAN SECTION OF A TURBINE ENGINE
An airfoil for a fan section of a turbine engine may include a fan blade or an outlet guide vane formed of a first material, and an edge guard disposed about an edge of the fan blade. The edge guard may include a matrix composite that has a toughness that is greater than a toughness of the first material. The airfoil may include a fan blade or an outlet guide vane. The first material of the airfoil may include a metal alloy and/or a matrix composite. A method of manufacturing an airfoil for a fan section of a turbine engine may include manufacturing an edge guard, attaching the edge guard to the airfoil.
