Self-modulated cooling on turbine components
Systems and methods are disclosed herein for passively managing cooling air in a gas turbine engine. A cooling air supply line may supply cooling air to a component in the gas turbine engine. A metering coupon may have a negative coefficient of thermal expansion. The metering coupon may allow more airflow through the metering coupon and through the component in response to an increase in temperature.
Abradable insert with lattice structure
An abradable insert for a gas turbine engine, the abradable insert including: a base layer; a lattice layer connected to the base layer, wherein the lattice layer comprises a series of walls that define a plurality of cells; and a sheet layer connected to the lattice layer on an opposite side on the lattice layer from the base layer, wherein the sheet layer is curved and includes a direction of concavity that points away from the base layer, wherein the lattice layer and the sheet layer are integrally formed together and are a monolithic piece of material.
Continuous slanted cell septum
A panel for attenuating noise is disclosed comprising a face skin having a first inner surface, a base skin having a second inner surface, a cellular core connected to and forming a plurality of cells between the face skin and the base skin, wherein the cellular core is defined by a cell structure having a plurality of cell walls extending between the face skin and the base skin defining each of the plurality of cells and a septum disposed within each of the plurality of cells, the septum defining an upper chamber proximate the face skin and a lower chamber proximate the base skin, wherein the face skin comprises a plurality of perforations fully through the face skin and in fluid communication with the upper chamber.
IMPELLER DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING METHOD WITH PENTAGONAL CHANNEL GEOMETRY
An impeller includes a body with an interior channel extending through the body along a centerline axis of the impeller. A plurality of blades is connected to the body on a forward end of the impeller centerline axis. The plurality of blades surrounds the interior channel and is fluidly connected to an array of inlets. An array of pentagonal channels extends through the body and radially outward in a spiral pattern. Each pentagonal channel is fluidly connected to a corresponding vane inlet and a corresponding pentagonal-shaped outlet. Each channel maintains a pentagonal cross-section shape from the inlet to the outlet. Each downward-sloping face of the cross section is more than 35 degrees from a horizontal plane perpendicular to the centerline axis of the impeller.
Shroud hanger assembly
A shroud hanger assembly or shroud assembly is provided for dimensionally incompatible components wherein the assembly includes a multi-piece hanger, for example having a forward hanger portion and a rearward hanger portion. A cavity is formed between the parts; wherein a shroud may be positioned which is formed of a low coefficient of thermal expansion material. The hanger and shroud may be formed of the same material or differing materials in order to better match the thermal growth between the hanger and the shroud. When the shroud is positioned within the hanger opening or cavity, one of the forward and rearward hanger portions may be press fit or otherwise connected into the other of the forward and rearward hanger portion.
ACOUSTIC TREATMENT PANEL FOR A TURBOJET ENGINE
An acoustic absorption cell including a bottom wall extending in a plane orthogonal to an axial direction, an enclosure including a first axial end secured to the bottom wall, and an acoustic horn extending inside the enclosure between a first opening of the horn and a second opening of the horn smaller than the first opening, the horn being secured to a second axial end of the enclosure opposite the first axial end, and the first and second openings of the horn each extending in a plane orthogonal to the axial direction. The horn includes at least one retaining arm protruding from the horn inside the enclosure and fixed to the bottom wall or to the enclosure.
IMPACT-COOLING TUBULAR INSERT FOR A TURBOMACHINE DISTRIBUTOR
A tubular ventilation sleeve for a turbomachine distributor, in particular for an aircraft, the sleeve having a generally elongate shape along an axis (A-A) and including a perforated tubular wall around said axis, one of the axial ends of the sleeve being open and the other being closed by a bottom wall, wherein it further includes support beams when the sleeve is made by additive manufacturing, the beams extending inside the sleeve between the tubular wall and the bottom wall and having a longitudinal cross-section with a generally triangular shape, two sides of which are respectively connected to the tubular wall and the bottom wall and the last side of which is free and extends inside the sleeve, perforations in the tubular wall being provided between the support beams.
Abradable sealing element
An abradable sealing element comprises a substrate and a sealing structure. The sealing structure comprises one or more wall structures extending from the substrate and defining at least one open cell which is filled with abradable material. The one or more wall structures are formed by additive-layer, powder-fed, laser-weld deposition onto the substrate. The one or more wall structures are formed from nickel-based superalloy and constitute from about 10% to about 50% of the total volume of the sealing structure.
Cooled airfoil trailing edge and method of cooling the airfoil trailing edge
An airfoil and method of cooling a airfoil including a leading edge, a trailing edge, a suction side, a pressure side and at least one internal cooling channel configured to convey a cooling fluid, is provided. A plurality of trailing edge bleed slots are in fluid communication with the at least one internal cooling channel, wherein a downstream edge of the pressure side of the airfoil lies upstream of a downstream edge of the suction side to expose the plurality of trailing edge bleed slots proximate to the trailing edge of the airfoil. The at least one internal cooling channel is configured to supply the cooling fluid from a source of cooling fluid towards the plurality of trailing edge bleed slots. A plurality of obstruction features are disposed within the at least one internal cooling channel and at a downstream edge of the remaining pressure side. The one or more obstruction features are configured having a predefined substantially polygon shape, to distribute a flow of the cooling fluid and provide distributed cooling to the plurality of trailing edge bleed slots.
