Turbine component with rail coolant directing chamber

A turbine component includes a rail coolant directing chamber radially outward from an airfoil chamber and radially inward from a tip plate. The chamber includes an inlet fluidly coupled to the airfoil chamber to receive a coolant flow therefrom. A plurality of outlets from the rail coolant directing chamber direct the coolant flow to the at least one rail cooling passage in the rail. At least one directing wall is within the rail coolant directing chamber to direct the coolant flow towards one or more of the plurality of outlets located along at least one of the pressure side wall and an aft region of the suction side wall prior to other outlets.

A core structure for a providing a cooling passage in a gas turbine engine includes a core body that has a first cooling passage core. The first cooling passage core has a first width in a chord-wise direction near a first wall. A second width in the chord-wise direction near a second wall. A third width in the chord-wise direction between the first and second walls. The third width being smaller than the first and second widths to form an hourglass shape.

Modified structural truss for airfoils

An airfoil for use with a gas turbine engine includes a pressure side wall. The airfoil further includes a suction side wall configured to be exposed to less pressure than the pressure side wall during operation of the gas turbine engine. The airfoil also includes a plurality of ribs defining multiple air passages including at least one triangular air passage partially defined by at least one of the pressure side wall or the suction side wall, and at least one internal air passage bordered on at least three sides by at least two of the plurality of ribs.

Airfoil and hydrofoils systems with structures having a surface texture defined by fractal geometries are described. Raised portions or fractal bumps can be included on the surfaces, forming a surface texture. The surface textures can be defined by two-dimensional fractal shapes, partial two-dimensional fractal shapes, non-contiguous fractal shapes, three-dimensional fractal objects, and partial three-dimensional fractal objects. The surfaces can include indents having fractal geometries. The indents can have varying depths and can be bordered by other indents, or bumps, or smooth portions of the airfoil or hydrofoil structure. The fractal surface textures can reduce vortices inherent from airfoil and hydrofoil structures. The roughness and distribution of the fractal surface textures reduce the vortices, improving laminar flow characteristics and at the same time reducing drag. The systems are passive and do not require applied power.

SEAL

A labyrinth seal having a land that comprises an array of polygonal cells, wherein at least 50% of the cells include a planar wall that subdivides the cell. The seal reduces seal leakage and can reduce specific fuel consumption of gas turbine engines that include such seals.

GUIDE VANE CONNECTION

Disclosed is a lever linkage for the rotationally fixed connection of a guide vane to a lever of a guide vane adjusting device of a turbomachine, wherein the guide vane has a vane shaft, which extends along a vertical axis. In accordance with the invention, the lever is formed in one piece at a radially outer end of an essentially hollow cylindrical clamping sleeve, which coaxially surrounds the vane shaft in sections, and the vane shaft and the clamping sleeve are coupled by way of a longitudinal side form-fitting connection or a front-end form-fitting connection, and the vane shaft can be tensioned with the clamping sleeve along the vertical axis by means of a fastening element, in particular a threaded nut. In consequence thereof, a separation of two different force flows that act on the guide vanes is obtained, as a result of which local load peaks are reduced.

MACHINE AND PROCESS FOR FILTERLESS WET REMOVAL OF PARTICLES FROM AND HUMIDIFICATION OF AIR

An improved air scrubber has an improved, more efficient, more robust impeller and impeller housing for mixing incoming air with water, scrubbing the air with increased efficiency and lower mean time between failures. Also water flow through the system is improved to prevent loss of scrubbing performance and to reduce user workload. In addition to these improvements, the water intake system has been redesigned to use less water, prevent using too much water, and to prevent previously common errors that require users to drain water from the impeller housing.
