IGNITER SEAL ARRANGEMENT FOR A COMBUSTION CHAMBER
An igniter seal arrangement for a combustion chamber. The combustion chamber has a wall having first surface and second surfaces. A boss projects from the first surface, and has a platform on its remote end. The platform has an inner surface spaced from the first surface of the wall to define a chamber between the first surface of the wall and the inner surface of the platform. The platform has an outer surface facing away from the first surface of the wall and an aperture extends through the wall from the outer surface of the platform of the boss to the second surface. First and second L-shape rails extend from the platform and a sealing member has a first edge and a second edge locatable between the outer surface of the platform and the first and second L-shape rails and the sealing member has an aperture to receive an igniter.
Angled impingement inserts with cooling features
An engine component assembly is provided with an insert having cooling features. The engine component comprises a cooled engine component surface having a flow path on one side thereof and a second component adjacent to the first component. The second component, for example an insert, may have a plurality of openings forming an array wherein the openings extend through the second component at a non-orthogonal angle to the surface of the second component. The second engine component has a plurality of discrete cooling features disposed on a surface facing the first component and near the plurality of cooling openings.
Composite fan inlet blade containment
A ribbed composite shell includes an annular grid of relatively thick crack arresting ribs embedded in a relatively thin annular shell and relatively thin panels in thin annular shell between arresting ribs wherein each of panels are completely surrounded by a set of relatively thick adjoining ones of ribs. A shell forward flange may extend radially inwardly from thin annular shell. Arresting ribs may include radially stacked layers of strips between radially stacked annular layers of shell. Annular grid may include a rectangular grid pattern, a diamond grid pattern, or a hexagonal grid pattern. A nacelle inlet may have the ribbed composite shell within one or both of radially spaced apart composite inner and outer skins of an inner barrel. Nacelle inlet may be part of attached to a fan casing and axially disposed forward of fan blades circumscribed by the casing. The inlet may be on an engine nacelle.
Pin to reduce relative rotational movement of disk and spacer of turbine engine
An axial compressor of a turbine engine includes a plurality of disk and spacer pairs oriented along a common axis of rotation. Each of a disk and a spacer of the disk and spacer pairs has a contacting face defining an engagement between the disk and the spacer. The contacting face of each of the disk and the spacer includes a recessed area. A pin has a stem received within the recessed area of the disk and a head received within the recessed area of the spacer. The head of the pin includes at least two flats corresponding to complementary surfaces of the recessed area of the spacer.
Polyhedral-sealed article and method for forming polyhedral-sealed article
A polyhedral-sealed article is disclosed including an article having a surface and a polyhedral seal layer disposed on the surface. The polyhedral seal layer includes a polyhedral structure having a plurality of polyhedral units. The polyhedral seal layer further includes at least one of a composition including an HTW composition, a heterogeneous pattern of the polyhedral structure, an orientation of the polyhedral structure extending from the surface at non-orthogonal angle, and at least one polyhedral unit conformation other than a hexagonal prism. A method for forming the polyhedral-sealed article is disclosed including forming a polyhedral seal layer by binder jet additive manufacturing and disposing the polyhedral seal layer on a surface of an article.
Structural honeycomb panel
A structural panel for use with a gas turbine engine includes a first exterior wall, a second exterior wall, and interior walls. The first exterior wall includes a first exterior surface and a first interior surface parallel to the first exterior surface. The second exterior wall includes a second exterior surface and a second interior surface parallel to the second exterior surface. The interior walls extend from the first interior surface to the second interior surface. The interior walls are arranged to form a pattern of hexagonal cells. The pattern of hexagonal cells includes cell groups having a variation in structural strength such that at least one of the cell groups has a structural strength that is not the same as the remaining cell groups.
Rotor Balance Weight System
A rotor has a rotor body having: a flange with a circumferential array of discontiguous apertures; and a surface spaced apart from the flange. One or more rotor balance weight assemblies each have a weight and a fastener. The weight has: a passageway having a first end and a second end; an internal thread along the passageway; and a boss at the first end of the passageway. The boss is in a respective one of the apertures. The fastener has: a shank having a first end and a second end and external thread engaged to the passageway internal thread; an engagement feature at the shank first end for engagement by a tool to turn the fastener; and a head at the second end contacts the surface.
SEAL
A labyrinth seal having a land that comprises an array of polygonal cells, wherein at least 50% of the cells include a planar wall that subdivides the cell. The seal reduces seal leakage and can reduce specific fuel consumption of gas turbine engines that include such seals.
TURBINE COMPONENTS WITH NEGATIVE CTE FEATURES
A turbine component includes: a metallic wall having opposed interior and exterior surfaces, the wall configured for directing a combustion gas stream in a gas turbine engine; and a metallic negative CTE structure rigidly attached to one of the surfaces.
Fan hub attachment for leading and trailing edges of fan blades
In one embodiment, a hub for a fan of a gas turbine engine is provided. The hub having: a plurality of attachment features located on an outer circumferential surface of the hub, wherein at least some of the plurality attachment features extend radially away from the outer circumferential surface and are axially aligned with each other and at least some of the plurality of attachment features extending radially away from the outer circumferential surface and are off set from each other, and wherein the plurality of attachment features have an opening configured to receive a portion of a pin; and wherein at least some of the plurality of attachment features are located on a forward leading edge of the hub.
