FRAME CONNECTION BETWEEN FAN CASE AND CORE HOUSING IN A GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A gear reduction reduces a speed of a fan rotor relative to a speed of a fan drive turbine. A fan case surrounds the fan rotor. A core engine has a compressor section and includes a low pressure compressor. The fan rotor delivers air into a bypass duct defined between the fan case and the core engine. A rigid connection between the fan case and the core engine includes a plurality of aft connecting members rigidly connected to the fan case, and to the core engine. A plurality of fan exit guide vanes are rigidly connected to the fan case, with the fan exit guide vanes including structural fan exit guide vanes which are rigidly connected to the core engine, and non-structural fan exit guide vanes, and the non-structural fan exit guide vanes being provided with an acoustic feature to reduce noise.
Removal of contaminants from air for use in aircraft engines
A secondary air system for an aircraft engine comprises an air flow path communicating between a source of pressurized cooling air and an air consuming component. A filter is disposed in the air flow path upstream from the air consuming component. The filter has at least one of: openings of a size selected for capturing suspended particles; and a filter surface material for binding with chemical contaminants.
System to control flow separation over an airfoil
A combination of an airfoil, turbine blade, or compressor blade with a flow separation control device includes an airfoil and a flow separation control device. The airfoil includes a body with an upper surface and a lower surface that extend from a leading edge to a trailing edge. The flow separation control device includes a plurality of openings on the upper surface of the body.
Compressor device with turbine section water recirculation path
A turbine section of a turbomachine includes a housing that houses and supports the rotating group for rotation about an axis. The housing defines a circumferential inlet passage that extends about the axis. The housing defines a turbine wheel upstream area that is disposed downstream of the circumferential inlet passage and upstream of the turbine wheel. The housing defines an outlet that is downstream of the turbine wheel. Furthermore, the turbine section includes a first flow path that extends from the circumferential inlet passage, through the turbine wheel upstream area, across the turbine wheel, to the outlet. Moreover, the turbine section includes a recirculation flow path that extends from the circumferential inlet passage, through the turbine wheel upstream area, and back to the circumferential inlet passage.
Aircraft fuel ice capturing filter housing, aircraft fuel ice capturing filter device, and method of use
Aircraft fuel ice capturing filter device housings, aircraft fuel ice capturing filter devices, and methods of use are provided.
Composite aerospace component
An aerospace component, for example, used in a gas turbine engine, includes the following structurally-integrated layers: a metallic layer and a composite layer having reinforcing fibers embedded in a matrix material. The aerospace component can also include an insulating layer disposed between the metallic layer and the composite layer where the insulating layer has a thermal conductivity that is lower than a thermal conductivity of the composite layer.
Continuous slanted cell septum
A panel for attenuating noise is disclosed comprising a face skin having a first inner surface, a base skin having a second inner surface, a cellular core connected to and forming a plurality of cells between the face skin and the base skin, wherein the cellular core is defined by a cell structure having a plurality of cell walls extending between the face skin and the base skin defining each of the plurality of cells and a septum disposed within each of the plurality of cells, the septum defining an upper chamber proximate the face skin and a lower chamber proximate the base skin, wherein the face skin comprises a plurality of perforations fully through the face skin and in fluid communication with the upper chamber.
ACOUSTIC ATTENUATION PANEL FOR A TURBOJET ENGINE NACELLE
An acoustic attenuation panel for a turbojet engine nacelle is provided by the present disclosure. The panel includes at least one alveolar core disposed between at least one internal skin and at least one external skin. In one form, the alveolar core includes a plurality of alveoli having a helical-shaped cavity along an axis in a direction normal to at least one internal skin and at least one external skin.
Containment systems for engine
A containment system for an engine includes an engine case having an inner perimeter. The containment system includes a containment ring nested within the inner perimeter of the engine case and integrally formed with the engine case along a first interface and a second interface. The containment ring includes a first leg opposite a second leg, and the first interface is defined between the first leg and the engine case. The containment system includes a first plurality of perforations defined at the first interface, and the first leg of the containment ring is frangible along the first plurality of perforations to at least partially release the containment ring to protect the engine case during a containment event.
