The third member has a third threaded mating surface configured to engage against the first threaded mating surface, and a fourth threaded mating surface configured to engage against the second threaded mating surface.
Fuse joint with fenestrated fuse pin
An assembly that includes a first mount, a second mount and a fuse pin. The first mount is configured with a first aperture. The second mount is configured with a second aperture. The fuse pin is mated with the first aperture and the second aperture. The fuse pin connects the first mount and the second mount together. The fuse pin has an axis, and is configured with a plurality of slots arranged circumferentially about the axis. A first of the slots has a length measured along the axis. The second mount has a thickness measured along the axis at an interface between the fuse pin and the second mount. The length is greater than the thickness.
FRANGIBLE STRUT FOR GAS TURBINE ENGINE
A frangible strut for a gas turbine engine includes a first end to couple to a first structure of the gas turbine engine, and a second end opposite the first end. The second end is to couple to a second structure of the gas turbine engine. The second end includes an outer portion coaxial with and spaced radially apart from an inner portion. The inner portion is to receive a fastening device to couple the second end to the second structure. The outer portion is coupled to a body of the frangible strut. The inner portion is interconnected to the outer portion by a plurality of frangible members that are spaced apart about a perimeter of the inner portion, and each of the frangible members are configured to release the inner portion from the outer portion. The frangible strut includes the body interconnecting the first end and the second end.
Method and system for elastic bearing support
A hybrid bearing support system includes a shaft extension fixedly coupled to a rotatable member at a radial inner end of the shaft extension, a radial outer end of the shaft extension fixedly coupled to a rotatable race of a bearing supporting the rotatable member, and a recoupler device formed of a shape memory alloy (SMA) material coupled in parallel with at least a portion of the shaft extension between the radial inner end and the radial outer end.
Method and system for rotor overspeed protection
A gas turbine engine, system, and method of severing at least one blade of a row of blades spaced about a rotor during an over speed condition are provided. The gas turbine engine includes a shaft rotatable about an axis of the shaft, a rotor coupled to the shaft and having a radially outer surface, and one or more rows of blades spaced axially along the outer portion. Each row of blades includes a plurality of blades spaced circumferentially around the radially outer surface. A gas turbine engine casing at least partially surrounds the one or more rows of blades. One or more rows of stationary vanes are spaced axially along the casing. Each row of stationary vanes includes a plurality of stationary vanes extending radially between the shaft and the gas turbine engine casing. The stationary vanes are coupled to the gas turbine engine casing using a fuse element.
Geared turbine engine with gear driving low pressure compressor and fan at common speed, and failsafe overspeed protection and shear section
A turbine engine has a fan and a low pressure compressor that rotate at a common speed and in a common direction. A fan drive turbine drives a gear reduction to, in turn, drive the low pressure compressor and the fan at a speed which is slower than a speed of the fan drive turbine. A combustor intermediate the low pressure compressor and the fan drive turbine and a thrust bearing mount the fan drive turbine, the thrust bearing being aft of a location of the combustor. A shear section in a drive connection connecting the fan drive turbine to the gear reduction is weaker than other portions of the drive connection. The shear section is aft of the thrust bearing.
Frangible airfoil for a gas turbine engine
