Aspects of the disclosure are directed to milling a nose of a first shield of a blade to leave at least one strip of the first shield coupled to a blade body, subsequent to the milling, applying a cryogenic technique to the blade to weaken a bond between the first shield and the blade body, and subsequent to the applying of the cryogenic technique, removing the at least one strip of the first shield from the blade body.

Manufacture of a hollow aerofoil

A method of manufacturing a hollow aerofoil component 100 for a gas turbine engine 10 comprises joining a first panel 200 to a second panel 300 using bonding, and hot forming the panels into shape. The bonding step and the hot forming step are performed in the same rig, thereby optimizing process time and component quality.

METHOD FOR REPAIRING A FAN CASING

A method for repairing a fan casing in which the inner surface is damaged, includes attaching a reinforcement element to the fan casing, the reinforcement element being attached to the outer surface of the fan casing opposite the damage.

VANE MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL COMPRISING METALLIC REINFORCEMENTS, AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SUCH A VANE

A method for manufacturing a blade made of composite material for a turbine engine, in particular of an aircraft, the steps of injecting a resin in order to impregnate a fibrous preform woven in three dimensions and polymerizing the resin so as to form the blade that includes an airfoil, one longitudinal end of which is connected to a platform. The platform includes pressure and suction portions connected to the airfoil by a fillet, wherein a separation is formed in the fibrous preform between the pressure and suction portions. The method further includes reinforcing a leading edge of the airfoil; and reinforcing the fillets by integration of a metal reinforcement on at least one part of the pressure and suction portions of the platform and in the separation.

There is proposed a method of forming an inflated aerofoil (1), the method comprising the steps of: forming a layered, planar pre-form (30); providing at least one stress-relieving opening (44, 45, 46, 47) through the pre-form; hot creep forming and inflating the pre-form (30) to form an intermediate aerofoil; and subsequently removing material from the intermediate aerofoil, including at least a region containing the or each stress-relieving opening (44, 45, 46, 47), to form a finished aerofoil.

METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A LEADING EDGE SHIELD

A field of rotary blades, and more particularly to a method of fabricating a leading edge shield for protecting such a blade. The method includes at least steps of performing initial plastic deformation on at least one sheet from a pressure side sheet and a suction side sheet, using additive fabrication to add a reinforcement with a fiber insert on at least one of the pressure and suction side sheets, closing the pressure and suction side sheets around a core after the initial plastic deformation and after adding the reinforcement, performing subsequent plastic deformation by pressing the pressure and suction side sheets against an outside surface of the core after the sheets have been closed around the core, and extracting the core.

FRICTION WELDING

A method for friction welding of inter alia coarse grain superalloy components, involving conditioning a shear zone of components to be welded by; a) pre-determining temperature profile for which the material of the shear zone of the components approaches viscoplasticity but does not undergo undesirable phase transformations, b) introducing friction at one or both surfaces of the components to be welded to provide a pre-defined quantum of energy sufficient to generate a peak temperature of the temperature profile at that surface whilst simultaneously applying pressure to the surfaces which is below a pressure which will cause upset at the surface, c) withdrawing the friction and/or pressure allowing the heat to disperse by conduction through the shear zone; d) after the temperature at the surface falls below peak temperature, repeating steps b) and c); and repeating step d) as necessary until the pre-determined temperature gradient is achieved throughout the shear zone.
