The disclosure describes an article and a method of making the same that includes a substrate defining an outer surface, a bond coat on the outer surface of the substrate, the bond coat defining a textured surface having a plurality of cells, each cell having a geometry and a depth, where the depth of a respective cell is different than the depth of at least one adjacent cell, and a coating formed on the textured surface of the bond coat.
Environmental barrier coating and methods of preparation
Methods of forming an environmental barrier coating are disclosed. A method includes disposing a powder-based coating on a substrate, heat-treating the powder-based coating at a temperature greater than 800 C. and less than 1200 C. to form a porous coating that includes surface-connected pores, infiltrating at least some of the surface-connected pores of the porous coating with an infiltrant material to form an infiltrated coating, and sintering the infiltrated coating at a temperature greater than 1200 C. and less than 1500 C. to form the environmental barrier coating on the substrate.
Advanced high temperature environmental barrier coating systems for SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites
Advanced environmental barrier coating bond coat systems with higher temperature capabilities and environmental resistance are disclosed. These bond coat systems can be applied to ceramic substrates such as SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composite substrates, and can provide protection from extreme temperature, mechanical loading and environmental conditions, such as in high temperature gas turbines. Example bond coat systems can include either an advanced silicon/silicide component, an oxide/silicate component, or a combination thereof.
INNER COATING LAYER FOR SOLID-PROPELLANT ROCKET ENGINES
An inner coating layer for solid-propellant rocket engines, constituted by a material comprising from 45% to 55% wt. of a a cross-linkable, unsaturated-chain polymer base, from 11% to 13% wt. of silica, from 15% to 25% wt. of vulcanizing agents and plasticizers, from 5% to 7% wt. of aramid fiber and from 10% to 15% wt. of microspheres made of a material selected among glass, quartz and nano clay, having diameter lower than 200 gm, density comprised between 0.30 and 0.34 g/cc and resistance to hydrostatic pressure greater than, or equal to, 4500 psi.

A method for forming a coating system on a component includes depositing a reactive layer with predetermined CMAS reaction kinetics on at least a portion of a thermal barrier coating. The method also includes activating the reactive layer with a scanning laser. A component, such as a gas turbine engine component, includes a substrate, a thermal barrier coating and a reactive layer. The thermal barrier coating is deposited on at least a portion of the substrate. The reactive layer is deposited on at least a portion of the thermal barrier coating. The reactive layer has predetermined CMAS reaction kinetics activated by laser scanning.
EBC with Mullite Bondcoat That Includes an Oxygen Getter Phase
A coated component, along with methods of its formation and use, is provided. The coated component includes a ceramic matrix composite (CMC) substrate comprising silicon carbide and having a mullite bondcoat on its surface. The mullite bondcoat includes an oxygen getter phase contained within a mullite phase. For example, the mullite bondcoat may include 60% to 98% by volume of the mullite phase. An environmental barrier coating is on the mullite bondcoat.

A ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component includes at least one seal surface, the at least one seal surface disposed adjacent an interfacing surface for providing a seal therebetween; and a coating disposed on the seal surface. The coating includes an aluminum oxide and/or a silicon dioxide.
