Composite aerofoils
A composite aerofoil may include an aerofoil body defining a leading edge and a trailing edge, wherein the body comprises a composite material including a plurality of relatively higher-modulus reinforcement elements, a plurality of relatively tougher polymer-based reinforcement elements, and a matrix material substantially encapsulating the plurality of relatively higher-modulus reinforcement elements and the plurality of relatively tougher polymer-based reinforcement elements. The plurality of relatively higher-modulus reinforcement elements are different from the plurality of relatively tougher polymer-based reinforcement elements. The disclosure also describes techniques for forming composite aerofoils.
Aircraft turbomachine provided with an unducted propeller with blades having a composite-material insert bonded to their leading edges
An aviation turbine engine having at least one unducted rotary propeller having a plurality of blades, each blade including: a blade body made of composite material including fiber reinforcement densified by a matrix, the fiber reinforcement of the blade body presenting three-dimensional weaving, the body extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge, and a protective fitting for protecting the leading edge and made of composite material having fiber reinforcement densified by a matrix, the fitting being adhesively bonded onto the leading edge of the blade body, the fitting being formed from a dry fiber preform injection molded with a densifying resin, and a polyurethane film for providing protection against erosion covering the blade body and the fitting.
COMPONENT OF REVOLUTION MADE OF COMPOSITE MATERIAL HAVING IMPROVED RESISTANCE TO DELAMINATION
A process for manufacturing a cylindrical composite component comprises includes producing a fibrous texture in the form of a strip by three-dimensional or multi-layer weaving, winding the fibrous texture on several superimposed lathes on a mandrel with a profile corresponding to that of the component to be manufactured so as to form a fibrous preform, densifying the fibrous preform by a matrix. When the fibrous texture is wound on the mandrel, a web including a fugitive material filled with carbon nanotubes is interposed between the adjacent turns of the fibrous texture.
Extended root region and platform over-wrap for a blade of a gas turbine engine
A rotor blade for a gas turbine engine including an inner ply layer group that at least partially defines a base of a root region; a platform around the inner ply layer group that at least partially defines the base; and a platform over-wrap around the platform, the platform over-wrap at least partially defines the base.
Ceramic matrix composite vane with integrated platform joint
An integral, one-piece ceramic matrix composite turbine vane adapted for use in a gas turbine engine includes an airfoil and two platforms. The airfoil extends radially relative to an axis of the gas turbine engine between the first platform and the second platform. The platforms extend circumferentially partway about the axis of the gas turbine engine.
SYSTEM FOR AN IMPROVED STATOR ASSEMBLY
An improved stator assembly for use in a gas-turbine engine is disclosed. The stator assembly may comprise a vane, an inner diameter (ID) ring, an outer diameter (OD) ring, a vane disposed between the ID ring and the OD ring, a potting component coupling the vane to at least one of the OD ring or the ID ring, and a potting embedded component disposed within the potting component. The potting embedded component may prevent disbond of the potting component during operation of the gas-turbine engine.
Hybrid component with cooling channels and corresponding process
A component is provided and includes a core including a ceramic matrix composite material, one or more cooling channels formed about the core, an outer metal shell disposed about the core and the one or more cooling channels and a protective material between the core and the outer metal shell. The one or more cooling channels are formed about the core as an array of cooling channels in the protective material.
Boas with twin axial dovetail
A turbine section for a gas turbine engine includes a turbine blade that extends radially outwardly to a radially outer tip and for rotation about an axis of rotation. A blade outer air seal has a plurality of segments arranged circumferentially about the axis of rotation and mounted in a support structure radially outward of the outer tip. Each of the segments have a radially inner surface and a radially outer surface and four hooks protruding radially outward from the radially outer surface and extending along the segment in an axial direction.
Dual bypass filter cascade
A filtration system is disclosed. In various embodiments, the filtration system includes a fine mesh filter configured for disposition within a chamber and defining a first volume, the first volume in fluid communication with a main exit conduit; and a coarse mesh filter configured for disposition within the chamber and at least partially surrounding the fine mesh filter, the coarse mesh filter and the fine mesh filter defining a second volume, the second volume in fluid communication with a first bypass valve, the coarse mesh filter and the chamber defining a third volume, the third volume in fluid communication with a second bypass valve.
Containment case having ceramic coated fibers
Containment assemblies and methods for forming containment assemblies of gas turbine engines are provided. For example, a containment assembly comprises a containment case including a plurality of coated fibers. Each coated fiber comprises a fiber surrounded by a ceramic material such that the ceramic material coats the fiber. As another example, a containment assembly comprises an inner case and a containment case comprising a plurality of coated fibers. Each coated fiber comprises a fiber surrounded by a ceramic material such that the ceramic material coats the fiber. The containment case includes a greater proportion of the coated fibers at an inner surface of a layer of the containment case than at a location within the containment case that is radially outward from the inner surface. Methods for forming a containment assembly of a gas turbine engine are provided.
