Process and apparatus for manufacturing water-absorbing material and use in cat litter

A process for manufacturing particles of water-absorbing material is provided. The process includes providing a powder bed composed of an absorptive powder comprising a water-absorbing polysaccharide onto a surface; releasing an aqueous solution from a solution dispenser so as to contact the powder bed, thereby forming a solution-impregnated humid material; letting the solution-impregnated humid material agglomerate in substantially shear-less conditions to form an agglomerated humid material, the solution-impregnated humid material being supported by the surface; and drying the agglomerated humid material, thereby forming the particles.

CAT LITTER AND THE PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF

A type of cat litter and its preparation method are provided. The content of this cat litter is calculated according to parts by mass and includes the following components: 100 parts of plant fiber waste, 1-7 parts of bacteriostat, 1-34 parts of deodorant, 1-27 parts of agent, 1-47 parts of binder, 1-94 parts of water-absorbing agent and 20-80 parts of water, wherein the bacteriostatic agent includes a mesoporous solid base.

Ammonia abatement for animal litter
11793156 · 2023-10-24 · ·

A method for preparing an ammonia abatement additive for poultry litter that is formulated to assure activation in an interior environment having various relative humidity conditions. The method includes obtaining a blended litter amendment composition that, based on weight, is about 40% deliquescent salt and about 60% aluminum sulfate, relative to a total weight of the two components. The composition can be made by the user or received, already blended, from a third party. To this blended composition that has been obtained, additional deliquescent salt is added in an amount such that the total amount of deliquescent salt is effective to activate the alum-containing ammonia abatement additive at the targeted low relative humidity condition in the interior of a poultry house. The composition is a sub-component of the ammonia abatement additive which may or may not contain additional compounds. The specified relative proportions (i.e., 40% deliquescent salt and 60% alum) only consider the proportion of deliquescent salt and the proportion of alum relative to the sum of the two components, based on weight. If there are other, extraneous compounds included in the ammonia abatement additive, those extraneous compounds are not counted in the defined and claimed proportions.

Extruded self-clumping cat litter
11457605 · 2022-10-04 · ·

Litter formed of extruded pellets containing water soluble binder sufficient to self-clump when wetted producing pellet clumps having a clump retention rate of at least 90% and which shrink after clump formation during drying producing a clump pulls away from any contacting solid surface minimizing adhesion therebetween. Such clumps preferably also have a crush strength of at least 15 PSI when dry. Pellets preferably contain water-soluble binder formed of starch physically modified during extrusion that solubilizes when wetted to facilitate clumping while opening the interior of the pellet improving absorption capacity. A preferred litter is formed of a mixture of extruded pellets of different sizes producing litter composed of extruded pellets falling within a plurality of different size ranges with the smaller sized pellets being fines that cause horizontally extending clumps to form on top of the litter.

Low density pet litters and methods of making and using such pet litters

Compacting expanded perlite fines in the presence of a clay and water, followed by drying, produces particles with low density, good integrity, and surprisingly higher absorption by volume than non-compacted expanded perlite or non-swelling clay. Furthermore, addition of a clumping agent to the compacted granules results in a clumping litter with low density, good integrity and comparable clumping ability to traditional clay clumping litter.

RESIDUE MITIGATION IN DIATOMACEOUS EARTH-BASED COMPOSITIONS

The present disclosure provides methods and compositions for mitigating residue transfer from diatomaceous earth-based compositions. Some aspects of the disclosure provide a method of reducing residue transfer from a diatomaceous earth-based material by contacting a diatomaceous earth-based material with a content of a layered silicate solution sufficient to reduce residue transfer therefrom. Other aspects of the disclosure provide animal litter compositions including particles of a diatomaceous earth material at least partially coated by a layered silicate. Still other aspects of the disclosure provide a method of preparing an animal litter composition having reduced residue transfer, the method including forming an animal litter composition as a mixture of particles of a diatomaceous earth-based material and a layered silicate.

AMMONIA MITIGATION IN ANIMAL LITTER COMPOSITIONS

The present disclosure provides methods for preparing animal litter composition and, in particular, methods of improving odor control in such animal litter compositions. The methods may include providing an animal litter composition that includes a manganese salt, the manganese salt being effective to react with odor-causing ammonia compounds that come into contact with the animal litter composition to thereby reduce an amount of ammonia gas released from a surface of the animal litter composition. In particular, in some embodiments, the present disclosure provides animal litter composition with improved odor control, such compositions including a plurality of particles, at least a portion of which include a liquid absorbing material, and a manganese salt at least partially coating at least a portion of the plurality particles.
