Apparatus for preloading a bearing
11193533 · 2021-12-07 · ·

A method for preloading a bearing includes releasably, threadably, and directly attaching an attaching member to a circumferential outside surface of an exposed end of a threaded shaft of an axle or spindle. A frame is axially separated from, and coupled to, the attaching member. A plurality of extensions extends from the frame axially past the attaching member toward the wheel hub assembly. An adjustment mechanism moves the frame and the plurality of extensions axially towards the wheel hub assembly to contact the wheel hub assembly and/or the bearing to apply a preload to the bearing within the wheel hub assembly.

HUB LOCK NUT ASSEMBLY

A hub lock nut assembly for retaining a vehicle wheel hub in position. The hub lock nut assembly comprising a hub lock nut and a mating component with which the hub lock nut is arranged to be mated in a mated position. The hub lock nut comprises a circumferential inner wall defining a central hole, the inner wall having a threaded portion. One of the hub lock nut or the mating component comprises at least one resilient portion adapted to be movable in a radial direction outwardly of the central hole when subjected to an external force provided by the other of the mating component or the hub lock nut. The at least one resilient portion having an engagement area for receiving said external force, wherein the engagement area is located radially outwardly of the threaded portion.

Methods and systems are provided for a retention system. In one example, the retention system comprises a retention feature arranged in each of a molded element and a fastener. The retention features interface with one another to enhance operation of the fastener.

Captive fastener with push out cam and hold out clip

A captive fastener is disclosed having a longitudinal slot along the shank for receiving a hold-out clip, and a chamber that houses a retractable cam member. The cam member is spring actuated to extend out of the shank and can be retracted into the cavity against the bias of the spring to pass through a primary panel and subpanel. The cam member is shaped to counter-rotate in the presence of a traverse force, such as the panel bearing against it.

VIBRATION RESISTANT FASTENER ASSEMBLY

Disclosed is a fastener assembly to avoid accidental loosening due to vibrations. The fastener assembly includes a circular profiled locking washer and a lock nut. The locking washer is detachably attachable to an arm. The locking washer provides a plurality of leaf-shaped grooves on a first surface, and a central axial aperture for receiving a threaded shaft. The lock nut further provides a plurality of spring loaded balls on a surface facing the first surface of the locking washer. During operation, the lock nut is tightened on the threaded shaft by rotating in clockwise direction, and cessation of rotation, latches the plurality of spring loaded balls with the plurality of leaf-shaped grooves to lock the lock nut, and hence to withstand counter-rotative torque on the lock nut caused by vibrations.

A connector assembly includes a first member, a threaded shaft, a nut, a set of first teeth, a set of second teeth, and a tab. The threaded shaft is disposed about an axis. The nut is threadably engaged with the threaded shaft. The nut includes a plurality of radially outward extending protrusions. The first teeth face axially and are non-rotatably coupled to the first member. The second teeth are configured to mate with the first teeth. The second teeth are coupled to the threaded shaft for axial movement relative to the threaded shaft and for common rotation with the threaded shaft. The tab is non-rotatable relative to the first member. The tab engages the protrusions to inhibit rotation of the nut relative to the first member.

Captive fastener with triple clip

A captive fastener is disclosed having a longitudinal slot along the shank for receiving a hold out clip, and a pair of diametrically opposed slots for receiving a pair of push out clips. The push out clips are formed with hook shaped ends that catch and engage an edge of a wall surface to set the distance of depth of the fastener inside the wall. The hold out clip and push out clips are shaped to receded inside their respective slots in the presence of an interfering surface as the fastener passes through the wall in a first direction (insertion), but the push out clips will not recede into their slots in the second direction (withdrawal).
