This invention generally relates to animal feeders, an animal feeding monitor and a method of training an animal to use a feeder. An animal feeder may have a housing with an aperture for a food bowl and a door for covering the aperture. The feeder can further include a door mechanism to control movement of the door over the aperture and a sensor to detect when an animal has moved away from the aperture. The feeder is configured to be operable in a training mode wherein the door mechanism is operable to control the door to cover a portion of the aperture in response to the detection and to respond to one or more later detections by controlling the door to cover a portion of the aperture larger than the preceding portion.

Apparatus and method to feed livestock

A method and apparatus for feeding livestock is presented. The method includes feeding livestock using a mobile feed preparation apparatus comprising a processor and a first non-transitory computer readable medium in communication with the processor, wherein the mobile feed preparation apparatus can dispense a plurality of feed rations, each feed ration comprising a base feed and at least one of a plurality of feed additives. The method includes dispensing from the mobile feed preparation apparatus a first feed ration comprising the base feed and a first feed additive, wherein the dispensed first feed ration comprises a dispensed amount of the first feed additive.

FEED BIN MONITORING SYSTEM

A bin monitoring system is useable with an elevated feed bin having a plurality of legs that support the bin above a pad so that each leg is connected to the pad through a load cell. The system includes an inner leg mount configured to be attached to a leg, the inner leg mount having an upper portion, and an outer bracket mounted on the load cell. The outer bracket receives the inner leg mount such that a bolt aperture in the outer bracket aligns with a bolt aperture in the upper portion of the inner leg mount and is secured with a threaded bolt. Rotation of the threaded bolt moves the inner leg mount toward the outer bracket to lift the leg so that the leg is supported by the load cell.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING FOOD INTAKE OF LIVESTOCK ANIMALS

A system for monitoring individual food intake of a livestock animal includes a calibration system configured to measure weight or volume of food intake of an animal over a pre-defined period of time and to calibrate a mathematical model for the animal based on the measure, a tracking system configured track animal eating behavior at times other than the pre-defined period of time and a computing system. The pre-defined period of time is less than three weeks. The mathematical model relates eating behavior of the animal and defined physiological parameters of the animal with food intake. The computing system determines food intake of the animal over a lactation period based on the mathematical model for the animal as calibrated and the eating behavior at the times other than the pre-defined period of time.

LIVESTOCK AND FEEDLOT DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING USING UHF-BAND INTERROGATION OF RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION TAGS FOR FEEDLOT ARRIVAL AND RISK ASSESSMENT

An agricultural data collection framework is provided in a system and method for tracking and managing livestock, and for analyzing animal conditions such as health, growth, nutrition, and behavior. The framework uses ultra-high frequency interrogation of RFID tags to collect individual animal data across multiple geographical locations, and incorporates artificial intelligence techniques to develop machine learning base models for statistical process controls around each animal for evaluating the animal condition. The framework provides a determination of normality at an individual animal basis or for a specific location, and generates alerts, predictions, and a targeted processing or application schedule for prioritizing and delivering resources when intervention is needed.

In particular, particular, the present disclosure relates to a method for supplying feed for rearing insect larvae, the method comprising the steps of (o) supplying feed to a container using a coarse feed supplying means, (i) determining at a determining means the amount of feed in the container, (ii) calculating the amount of feed necessary to bring the total amount of feed in the container to a predetermined amount of feed, and (iii) supplying feed to the container in the amount calculated in step (ii) using a fine feed supplying means.

Animal feed activity collection apparatuses, methods and systems

Systems and methods provide automated data collection of feed behavior and intake for animals in confinement where the animal ingests feed from a feed station that includes a first and second feed container each of which holds a feed that is freely accessible to the animal, and a respective first and second weight sensor each of which senses a change in weight of the respective feed in the container. A processor is configured to transmit instructions to cause it to receive from the weight sensors, a plurality signals indicative of a change in weight in the first and second feed containers. The processor records a reduction in weight sensed by the first or the second sensor as consumption of the respective feed, and records a change in weight sensed by the first or the second sensor as feeding activity at the respective feed container.
