SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR HYDRAULIC TRANSFORMER CLUTCHES
A hydraulic transformer clutch employs radial hydraulic piston assemblies with integrated electrohydraulic actuation. The hydraulic transformer clutch includes: an output shaft, an output disc affixed to the output shaft for rotation therewith, an input shaft, a rotatable housing affixed to one of the input shaft or the output shaft for rotation therewith, a plurality of hydraulic cylinders, and a plurality of working pistons. The hydraulic cylinders are operatively connected to the rotatable housing, and are spaced about the rotatable housing. Each working piston is slidably mounted within a corresponding hydraulic cylinder of the plurality of hydraulic cylinders, and is positioned to be selectively pushed, when actuated, to create a rigid connection between the input shaft and the output shaft. One or more actuator pistons are pushed by an electromagnet and create pressure that is distributed on working piston surfaces and generates active torque.
Wedge clutch with anti-expansion retainer
A clutch includes a carrier defining an annular groove and a hub coaxial with the carrier and defining an outer surface. The hub is axially movable relative to the carrier between at least a first position and a second position. A wedge disk has a first edge disposed on the outer surface, a second edge disposed in the annular groove, and a face extending between the edges and defining an annular shoulder. The disk engages between the carrier and the hub when the hub is in the first position to lock the clutch, and the carrier and the hub are rotatable relative to each other when the hub is in the second position. An annular retainer is configured to prevent radial expansion of the disk when the hub is in the second position and to permit radial expansion of the disk when the hub is in the first position.
Wedge clutch with anti-expansion retainer
A clutch includes a carrier defining an annular groove and a hub coaxial with the carrier and defining an outer surface. The hub is axially movable relative to the carrier between at least a first position and a second position. A wedge disk has a first edge disposed on the outer surface, a second edge disposed in the annular groove, and a face extending between the edges and defining an annular shoulder. The disk engages between the carrier and the hub when the hub is in the first position to lock the clutch, and the carrier and the hub are rotatable relative to each other when the hub is in the second position. Clutch actuation using differential pressure
An actuation device having a piston is used to actuate a mechanical or friction clutch by means of differential pressure. Two sides of a piston are pressurized, and the relative pressure between the two sides is decreased or increased to move the piston in either direction. The position of the piston may be determined using position feedback, or with springs of known spring rates, two piston areas, and knowing the pressures of the two areas. The actuation device may be used with a selectable clutch to actuate an actuation cam, and may also have application with other clutches requiring the ability to achieve multiple positions and clutch modes.
Clutch actuation using differential pressure
An actuation device having a piston is used to actuate a mechanical or friction clutch by means of differential pressure. Two sides of a piston are pressurized, and the relative pressure between the two sides is decreased or increased to move the piston in either direction. The position of the piston may be determined using position feedback, or with springs of known spring rates, two piston areas, and knowing the pressures of the two areas. The actuation device may be used with a selectable clutch to actuate an actuation cam, and may also have application with other clutches requiring the ability to achieve multiple positions and clutch modes.
WEDGE CLUTCH WITH ANTI-EXPANSION RETAINER
A clutch includes a carrier defining an annular groove and a hub coaxial with the carrier and defining an outer surface. The hub is axially movable relative to the carrier between at least a first position and a second position. A wedge disk has a first edge disposed on the outer surface, a second edge disposed in the annular groove, and a face extending between the edges and defining an annular shoulder. The disk engages between the carrier and the hub when the hub is in the first position to lock the clutch, and the carrier and the hub are rotatable relative to each other when the hub is in the second position. An annular retainer is configured to prevent radial expansion of the disk when the hub is in the second position and to permit radial expansion of the disk when the hub is in the first position.
Variable two-way over-running clutch
A clutch assembly is provided that includes a first shaft, a second shaft, a housing, a two-way over-running clutch, and a friction clutch assembly. The two-way over-running clutch includes an inner race and an outer race. At least one torque transmitting member is disposed between the inner race and the outer race that selectively transfers torque from the inner race to the outer race. The inner race defines at least one cam that receives the torque transmitting member. An inner race actuator selectively controls lock-up of the two-way over-running clutch by moving the inner race relative to the first shaft and the outer race between a concentric position and at least one eccentric position.
Variable two-way over-running clutch
A clutch assembly is provided that includes a first shaft, a second shaft, a housing, a two-way over-running clutch, and a friction clutch assembly. The two-way over-running clutch includes an inner race and an outer race. At least one torque transmitting member is disposed between the inner race and the outer race that selectively transfers torque from the inner race to the outer race. The inner race defines at least one cam that receives the torque transmitting member. An inner race actuator selectively controls lock-up of the two-way over-running clutch by moving the inner race relative to the first shaft and the outer race between a concentric position and at least one eccentric position.
