20210172483 · 2021-06-10 ·

A shifting system for a vehicle transmission includes an input member and a selectable one-way clutch rotatably coupled to the input member. The selectable one-way clutch is moveable between first, second, and third clutch positions. The shifting system also includes a disconnect coupled to the input member and moveable between first and second disconnect positions, and an output member selectively rotatable with the input member. The shifting system further includes a shifting assembly for selectively rotatably coupling the input and output members. The shifting assembly includes an input hub coupled to the input member, having a disconnectable component engageable with the disconnect, and having a clutch engagement component. Clutch plates are coupled to the clutch engagement component and are moveable between engaged and disengaged positions. A clutch plate carrier is coupled to the clutch plates and output member to transmit torque from the clutch engagement component to the output member.

SELECTABLE ONE-WAY CLUTCHES WITH NOTCH PLATE INSERTS FOR ENGINE DISCONNECT DEVICES OF MOTOR VEHICLE POWERTRAINS

Presented are clutch-type engine disconnect devices, methods for making/using such disconnect devices, and motor vehicles equipped with such disconnect devices. An engine disconnect device includes a notch plate, which has multiple notches and attaches to a torque converter, and a pocket plate, which has multiple pockets and attaches to an engine's crankshaft. A pawl is movably mounted within each notch; these pawls selectively engage the notches with the pockets. A notch plate insert is nested within each notch, supporting thereon one of the pawls. A selector plate interposed between the pocket and notch plates moves from a first position, to shift the pawls out of engagement with the pockets, and a second position, to move the notch plate inserts within the notches and allow the pawls to engage the notches with the pockets to thereby lock the notch plate to the pocket plate to rotate in unison with each other.

Wedge clutch with slotted carrier

A wedge clutch includes first and second races supported for rotation about a common axis. The first race defines a cam surface and circumferentially arranged pockets recessed into the cam surface. A wedge element is formed of circumferentially arranged wedges each having an ear disposed in one of the pockets. Resilient members are disposed in the pockets and act between the ears to bias the wedge element to a contracted position in which the wedge elements collectively contract towards the axis and the clutch is engaged. A cage is axial movable towards the wedge element to engage with the ears to compress the resilient members and move the wedge element to an expanded position in which the wedge elements collectively expand away from the axis and the clutch is disengaged.

Switchable three-mode clutch

A three-mode clutch, including: an inner ring; an outer ring including a pocket; a cage radially disposed between the inner and outer rings, rotatable with respect to the outer ring, and including a ramp sloping radially inwardly; and a pawl including a portion disposed in the pocket. In a locked mode of the clutch, the ramp is in contact with the pawl and the inner and outer rings are non-rotatably connected. In a one-way mode of the clutch, the cage is in contact with the pawl and relative rotation of the inner ring with respect to the outer ring is enabled only in a first rotational direction. In a freewheel mode of the clutch, the ramp is in contact with the pawl and the inner ring is rotatable with respect to the outer ring in the first rotational direction and in a second rotational direction opposite the first rotational direction.

Bi-directional wedge clutch with lockup prevention

A wedge clutch, including: a hub; a carrier; a first wedge plate segment radially located between the hub and the carrier and including a first ramp sloping radially inwardly in a first circumferential direction and including a first circumferential end; a second wedge plate segment radially located between the hub and the carrier and including a second ramp sloping radially inwardly in a second circumferential direction, opposite the first circumferential direction and including a second circumferential end. In a free-wheel mode of the wedge clutch, one of the hub or the carrier is rotatable with respect to the other of the hub or the carrier. In a locked mode of the wedge clutch: the hub and the carrier are non-rotatably connected for rotation of the hub in the first circumferential direction; and the first and second circumferential ends are in contact.

PUMP WITH RESIDUAL MAGNETISM ATTENUATION

A pump includes a stator and a rotor axially between a fluid inlet section and a fluid outlet section. The stator includes a plurality of radially inwardly extending legs; and a plurality of electrical windings disposed about the radially inwardly extending legs. The attenuating circuit includes a capacitor electrically wired in parallel with each winding and at least one switch electrically connected to the capacitor. During energization of the electrical winding, the switch electrically connects the capacitor to an electrical ground and the electrical power source creates a voltage in the capacitor. Following a de-energization of the plurality of electrical windings, the switch isolates the capacitor from the electrical ground and the capacitor discharges the voltage through the electrical winding, creating a decaying oscillating current that attenuates residual magnetization in the winding.

Electromagnetic selectable wedge clutch

A wedge clutch selectively locks an outer race to an inner race to transfer torque therebetween. The inner race includes a first plurality of tapered surfaces, tapered in a first direction about an axis. The inner race includes a second plurality of tapered surfaces, tapered in an opposite second direction about the axis. At least two wedge plates are provided, each having a plurality of segments with a tapered inner surface disposed on a respective one of the first or second plurality of tapered surfaces of the inner race. The tapered inner surfaces of the wedge plates are tapered in opposite directions. An electromagnetic actuator is provided for each of the wedge plates. Electrically energizing one of the actuators constricts that respective wedge plate, unwedging the wedge plate from between the inner race and outer race and to no longer inhibit relative rotation therebetween.

A clutch includes an inner race, an outer race defining an inner cam surface having lobes and valleys, and a plurality of wedge segments configured to selectively couple the inner and outer races. The wedge segments are circumferentially arranged around the inner race with each segment disposed between adjacent ones of the lobes and valleys. Each segment is circumferentially movable towards the adjacent lobe to increase friction with the inner race and towards the adjacent valley to decrease friction with the inner race. A cage is configured to drive the circumferential movement of the wedge segments. Rotation of the cage relative to the outer race in a first direction permits overrunning of the inner race in a second direction that is opposite the first direction while a second set of the segments locks the inner race from rotating in the first direction relative to the outer race.
