A differential housing in which the differential is mounted on the side of the crown wheel through a spacer on the outer ring of a large diameter tapered roller bearing, which in turn is connected to a conical component. The conical component optionally configure to accommodate a constant velocity joint or a universal joint. The design allows for the use of a longer half shaft without changing the position of the engine or the central prop shaft.

AXLE ASSEMBLY

An axle housing for an axle assembly of a vehicle includes a pinion portion and a differential portion. The differential portion rotatably supports a differential gear assembly. A pinion insert has a first and second bearing pockets and is disposed in the pinion portion of the axle housing at least partially forming a bore through which a pinion shaft rotates. A first bearing is disposed in the first bearing pocket of the pinion insert and a second bearing is disposed in the second bearing pocket of the pinion insert. The pinion insert is manufactured from a material having a higher stiffness than the cast metal alloy of the axle housing.

Bearing assembly configured to handle axial and radial loads

A bearing assembly and a related power transmitting component. The bearing assembly includes a first bearing, which is an angular contact bearing, and a second bearing, which is a tapered roller bearing. The first bearing has a first inner bearing race, a first outer bearing race and a plurality of spherical bearing balls disposed between the first inner bearing race and the first outer bearing race. The second bearing assembly has a second inner bearing race, a second outer bearing race and a plurality of tapered bearing rolls disposed between the second inner bearing race and the second outer bearing race. One of the first inner and first outer bearing races is fixedly coupled to one of the second inner and second outer bearing races for axial and rotational movement therewith. The first and second bearings are configured to handle thrust in a common axial direction.

Axle assembly

An axle assembly with a housing, a pinion, a ring gear, a bearing and a pair of shafts. The pinon is mounted to the housing for rotation about a first axis. The ring gear is received in the housing and meshingly engaged with the pinion. The bearing supports the ring gear for rotation relative to the housing about a second axis and also handles thrust loads between the housing and the ring gear that are directed (in both directions) along the second axis. The bearing has a plurality of bearing elements and is abutted against a shoulder formed on the housing that is positioned along the second axis between the first axis and the bearing elements. The differential assembly has a differential case, which is coupled to the ring gear for rotation therewith, and a pair of output members that are coupled to the shafts for common rotation.

Vehicle drive device

A first rotating element is a first sun gear that rotates with a rotor. A third rotating element is a first ring gear connected to a case. A fourth rotating element is a second ring gear that rotates with an input element. A second rotating element is a first carrier rotatably supporting a first pinion gear and a second pinion gear that rotate together. The first pinion gear meshes with the first sun gear and the first ring gear. The second pinion gear has a smaller diameter than the first pinion gear and meshes with the second ring gear. The first sun gear is supported in a radial direction with respect to the case via a first support bearing. The second ring gear and the input element are connected such that their relative movement in the radial direction is restricted.

Axle assembly having a drive pinion and a preload nut

An axle assembly having a differential carrier, a drive pinion, a bearing assembly, and a preload nut. The drive pinion has a shaft that has a threaded portion. The bearing assembly rotatably supports the drive pinion on the differential carrier. The preload nut mates with the threaded portion and exerts a preload force on the bearing assembly.

A housing for a bevel gear includes a pinion bearing seat configured to support a pinion bearing for a driveshaft having a drive pinion. The housing also includes an attachment structure configured to attach a support bearing seat to the housing such that the position of the support bearing seat with respect to the pinion bearing seat is variable in the radial direction.

Transmission for a vehicle, and power train having such a transmission

A transmission for a power train of a vehicle includes an input shaft, two output shafts, and a differential arranged between the two output shafts. The differential includes two planetary gear sets, which include multiple gear set elements. A first output torque is at least indirectly transmittable onto the first output shaft by the first planetary gear set. A support torque of the first planetary gear set is convertible in the second planetary gear set such that a second output torque, which corresponds to the first output torque, is transmittable onto the second output shaft. A second gear set element of the first planetary gear set is connected to the first output shaft for conjoint rotation via a spline. At least one first duct for axial passage of lubricant is formed between inner toothing and the outer toothing of the spline.

Axle assembly having a lubricant deflector
