Composite material including a thermoplastic polymer, a pest food material and a pesticide

Composite materials that are palatable to a wood-destroying pest species and also pesticidal to the pest species can be used in pest control devices and can be used as wood substitutes for structural components, which are resistant to destruction by wood-destroying pests. The composite materials include a thermoplastic polymer, a food material for the pest and a pesticide. The composite material is formed by mixing a thermoplastic polymer, wood fragments or other cellulosic materials and a quantity of pesticide, and thereafter creating a molten material within a mixer, compounder, extruder or the like. The molten material is extruded or molded to form the desired shape.

ANT BAIT STATIONS WITH ATTRACTANT VECTOR COMPARTMENT AND EASY OPENING

An ant bait station is formed as a stick pack having multiple compartments, wherein each of the compartments contain a bait for a target ant species, and includes a plurality of apertures to the respective compartments. Some or all of the baits may contain a pesticide, for example a borate. In at least one of the compartments containing a pesticide, the apertures are large enough to permit the target ants to enter and exit. In some embodiment a compartment contains a bait without a pesticide. This may improve performance if the non-pesticidal bait attracts ants to the trap, and the lack of pesticidal component extends the life of the attractant. The compartment containing the bait without a pesticide may have apertures that are too small to permit the ants from entering and exiting.

PEST DETECTION

A system (10) for remote detection of pests, in this case as applied to a domestic dwelling (11) where a base station (12) communicates with eight detector or monitor units (13). The dotted (lines (14) indicate wired or wireless communication between the units (13) and the base station (12). As used herein the expressions “monitor” and “detector” are used interchangeably or where the detector is used as part of a box or cartridge where the detector is part (and may be reusable and separable) the whole unit including the detector part may be referred to as a monitor.

A tamper-proof bait station system that is capable of being weighted down to prevent an animal from removing the bait station from a desired location being treated for rodent or pest infestation. The tamper-proof bait station also includes a locking cap or cover used to secure a cover and base together.

Method and System for Controlling and Communicating the Statuses of Insect Bait Stations

A device for controlling at least one insect bait station (100), in particular for insects harmful to humans, animals and plants, in which the bait station is provided with: at least one container (3, 5) provided with an insect entrance opening, the container containing bait and being at least partially transparent or translucent, a lighting device (10) lighting the inside of the container but located outside same, a telecommunication module (23, 25) and a printed circuit comprising, inter alia, a memory and a processor connected to said telecommunication means. The device comprises an optical sensor essentially opposite the lighting device, and connected to the printed circuit (12), which measures the general opacity caused by the insect(s) in the container, the corresponding value being transmitted for processing and analysis of the status of the bait station.

A system and method of monitoring and controlling cellulose-consuming pests in a predetermined location provides for the use of an assembly that has a main body with a cylindrical upper portion and a lower portion continuously co-axially formed with the upper portion. The lower portion is formed as blades meeting at a lowermost point and defining a sharp bottom point that helps penetrate the soil in the selected location. A plurality of cellulose-containing bait units are detachably fitted in the lower portion and the upper portion. The bait units fitted in the lower portion are retained by the blade portions, which engage radial slots of the bait units. A moisture-retaining member is positioned in the upper portion above an uppermost of the bait units. A removable cap frictionally fittingly engages with the upper portion. The cap has an opening allowing water to be poured into the main body to moisten the bait units and make them more attractive to foraging insects. If consumption of the cellulose material is detected, the bait units may be substituted with a bait material containing poisonous substance. The pests consume the bait and carry the poison to the colonies.

Bedbug detection, monitoring and control techniques

One nonlimiting variation of a detection arrangement includes one or more sensors each structured to detect at least one biochemical substance indicative of biochemistry of one or more target insect species and provide a corresponding sensor signal, a controller responsive to the sensor signal of each of the one or more sensors to determine if the one or more insect species are present and generate a corresponding output signal, and an indicator responsive to the output signal to indicate the presence of the one or more insect species.

Insect pest repellant

The present invention provides an insect pest repellant and a method for repelling insect pest using the same, which is highly transported by the insect pests and which effectively exterminates insect pests and does not badly affect ecological system. The present invention is to provide an insect pest repellant comprising, in a mixed condition, (A) a dummy egg imitating an egg of an insect pest, formed from a particulate substrate on which an egg recognizing pheromone is coated, and (B) a particle containing an active component for repelling the insect pest either on a surface or in an inside of the particle.

A planar bait presenting device is described comprising a bait contact zone for receiving bait wherein the bait contact zone comprises a dose measurement guide and an ink display zone. A kit is also described comprising a plurality of the bait presenting devices and a backing sheet to which the devices are removably adhered. A method of displaying bait, is described which comprises adhering the device to a surface; and applying a discrete amount of bait to the bait contact zone. The method involves applying bait to the bait contact zone until the area defined by the dose measurement guide is substantially covered with bait. Also described are methods of displaying bait which comprise adhering the device to a surface and exposing a discrete amount of bait in the bait contact zone; and methods of enclosing bait in a hole which comprise inserting a discrete amount of bait into a hole and adhering the device to the surface surrounding the hole, thereby enclosing the bait in a hole.
