Clutch control for a high efficiency, high output transmission having improved response and position control
A transmission includes an input shaft coupled to a prime mover, a countershaft, main shaft, and an output shaft, with gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. The shift actuator is mounted on an exterior wall of a housing including the countershaft and the main shaft. A shift control circuit operates a shift actuator using a first opposing pulse command and a first actuating pulse command, and releases pressure with shift actuating and opposing volumes of the shift actuator upon determining a shift completion event.
High efficiency, high output transmission
A transmission includes an input shaft coupled to a prime mover, a countershaft, main shaft, and an output shaft, with gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. A shift actuator selectively couples the input shaft to the main shaft by rotatably coupling gears between the countershaft and the main shaft. The shift actuator is mounted on an exterior wall of a housing including the countershaft and the main shaft. An integrated actuator housing includes a single external power access for the shift actuator. A controller interprets a shaft displacement angle, determines if the transmission is in an imminent zero or zero torque region, and performs a transmission operation in response to the transmission in the imminent zero or zero torque region.

Method and transmission control apparatus for operating a multiple-speed vehicle transmission
Disclosed is a method for operating a multi-gear vehicle transmission having a plurality of shifting elements (A, B, C, D, E) for engaging gears of the vehicle transmission. In a neutral gear, in which some of the shifting elements (A, B) are already actuated, a transmission input (1) is decoupled from a transmission output (2) of the vehicle transmission. In a driving gear the transmission input (1) is coupled to the transmission output (2) of the vehicle transmission by closing the shifting elements (A, B, C, D, E) associated with the driving gear, in order to propel the vehicle. With the neutral gear engaged a transmission condition is determined, and if a transmission condition with elevated drag losses exists, then in addition to the shifting elements (A, B) actuated in the neutral gear a shifting element (D) associated with a reversing gear of the vehicle transmission is also closed.
GEAR SHIFT ACTUATION SIMPLIFICATION
A transmission is subject to gear shift management that provides for shifting gears in a controlled manner in order to provide for a simplification of part and reduction in system complexity. In particular, a range synchronizer component can be replaced with a simplified range jaw clutch, without incurring a requirement for an installation of other components such as a motor generator or starter-generator.

Heat load estimation device and heat load estimation method for friction engaging element
A heat load estimation device for a friction engaging element that estimates a heat load when at least one of a temperature, a heat generation amount, and presence or absence of seizure in the friction engaging element at a time of shifting of the transmission is regarded as the heat load, includes a storage device and an execution device. The storage device stores mapping data defining mapping. The mapping includes, as an input variable, a speed variable that is a variable indicating a relative rotation speed of members of the friction engaging element and a hydraulic pressure variable that is a variable indicating hydraulic pressure during the shifting of the transmission, and includes, as an output variable, the heat load. The execution device executes a calculation process for calculating a value of the output variable and a change process for changing an execution mode of the calculation process.
