A MULTIPURPOSE POTENTIATOR COMPOSITION AND THE METHODS THEREOF
Disclosed is a multipurpose potentiator composition comprising: sodium carbonate monohydrate, sodium carbonate anhydrous, potassium nitrate, sodium chloride and water such that the potentiating composition is applied to alter physical or chemical properties or both of a substance on which the potentiating composition is applied. Also provided is a container for holding the composition.
COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR GENERATING MODIFIED CRYO POOR PLASMA
A method for producing a modified cryo-poor precipitate that can be utilized in chromatography without intervening precipitation steps is provided. While thawing frozen plasma at low temperature a precipitating compound (e.g. a salt of an organic acid) is added in small amounts. The resulting modified cryo-poor plasma has a reduced tendency to foul chromatography media, permitting direct application to such media without the need for additional precipitation steps. The resulting modified cryoprecipitate has a higher content of cold-insoluble proteins (such as clotting factors), and can be resolubilized and processed further.
MODIFIED DONOR ORGANS
A repaired ex vivo organ suitable for transplantation in a human, said repaired ex vivo organ having undergone ex vivo organ perfusion for a maintenance period, wherein said organ had been assessed as being unsuitable for transplantation into a human before the maintenance period and was determined to be suitable for transplantation after the maintenance period.
Methods of preparing pH-stabilized and heat-sterilized organ preservation and/or perfusion solutions
An organ preservation and/or perfusion solution for an isolated tissue or organ is provided. The solution comprises dextran, glucose, calcium ions, a buffer, and water, has a pH of 6.6 to 7.8, and is sterile based on having been subjected to heat sterilization. A method of preparing the solution also is provided. The method comprises combining dextran, glucose, calcium ions, buffer, and water to obtain an initial solution, adjusting the pH of the initial solution to 7.0 to 7.8 if needed, and subjecting the initial solution to heat sterilization, thereby obtaining the organ preservation and/or perfusion solution. A method of preserving and/or perfusing an isolated tissue or organ also is provided. A method for flushing, storage, and/or transportation of an isolated lung after removal from a donor in preparation for eventual transplantation into a recipient also is provided.
Compositions and methods for prolonged cell storage
Provided in some aspects are methods and compositions for preserving platelets or other cells. In some embodiments, a platelet storage media or cell storage media may comprise a low molecular weight polyethylene glycol (e.g. PEG-400) to allow for extended storage and/or refrigeration of the platelets or cells.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR REGULATING TEMPERATURE OF ORGANS DURING OR BEFORE SURGICAL PROCEDURES
Devices are provided for regulating the temperature of an organ being transplanted that includes a housing including one or more walls surrounding a cavity sized to receive an organ and an opening for accessing the cavity. The walls include an inner layer defining an inner surface for contacting the organ placed in the cavity, an outer layer defining an outer surface of the housing, and a cooling layer between the inner and outer layers, e.g., including a phase-change material configured to absorb thermal energy from the organ within the cavity through the inner layer, e.g., to maintain the organ within a target temperature range before and/or during a transplantation procedure. Optionally, the device may include one or more additional features, e.g., a handle to facilitate manipulation, one or more straps securable across the opening to secure the organ, and/or a temperature sensor to monitor the temperature of the organ.
RETINAL PIGMENT EPITHELIUM CELL COMPOSITIONS
Presented herein are ready to administer (RTA) retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell therapy compositions for the treatment of retinal degenerative diseases and injuries. A method of formulating human RPE cells for administration to a subject directly after thawing and of formulating RPE cell therapy compositions for cryopreservation and administration of the cryopreserved composition to a subject subsequent to thawing are also presented. In another aspect, the RTA composition may be formulated as a thaw and inject (TAI) composition, whereby the composition is administered by injection subsequent to thawing.
Methods, systems and apparatus for preservation of organs and other aqueous-based materials utilizing low temperature and elevated pressure
This invention uses low temperature and elevated pressure to induce suspended animation by depressing the freezing and melting temperature of water and aqueous solutions, including but not limited to biological materials, soluble molecules, organic and inorganic compounds. Increasing the pressure to 210 MPa in a container depresses the freezing and melting temperature of water, biological matter, and materials in aqueous solution, to 22 C. Storage at low temperature under high pressure suspends metabolic activity and induces cryostasis. This invention can be used for cryo-banking biological materials that cannot be frozen or vitrified, or otherwise preserved, including, but not limited to, cells, tissues, human organs for transplantation or entire organisms.
Tissue preservation system
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for tissue, such as an allograft, storage and preservation for extended periods of time at room temperature in a sterile tissue culture chamber. The invention further provides a process for maintaining the sterility of tissue using the apparatus as described.
THE USE OF A MEDICAL GRADE HONEY BASED INGREDIENT FOR THE PREPARATION OF A COMPOSITION FOR PRESERVING HUMAN AND/OR ANIMAL TISSUE
The present invention relates to the use of a medical grade honey based ingredient for the preparation of a composition for preserving human and/or animal tissue. In addition, the present invention relates to the use of a medical grade honey based ingredient for the preparation of a composition for preserving human and/or animal tissue through the promotion of angiogenesis.
