Cap for a header box

A cap (20) for a header box of a heat exchanger (1), in particular for a motor vehicle, in particular a radiator, is disclosed. A locking security lid incorporates a cylindrical housing having extendable pistons and contact pads for contacting the interior surface of an access pipe, the contact pads may be retracted to a withdrawn position wherein the contact pads are within the outside diameter of the cylindrical housing. The cylindrical housing is provided with a locking bolt to will be secured to the cylindrical housing through a stanchion and having a keyed bolt head to prevent removal of the locking bolt without a socket wrench having a corresponding slot pattern. The contact pads are provided with a locking interference surface to prevent relative movement between an access pipe and the contact pad when the contact pads are extended.

Disclosed is a system comprising a fitting with a bore and a fitting recess. A plug comprising a body can be positioned within the bore, defining a plug recess. A locking mechanism can comprise a locking bar. The locking bar can engage both the fitting recess and/or the plug recess in a locked configuration, and only one of the recesses in an unlocked configuration. The locking bar can translate relative to the body to switch between the locked and unlocked configurations. The system provides a secure and efficient locking mechanism for connecting the fitting and plug components and can permit reconfiguration between the locked and unlocked configurations.
