In one embodiment, a power tool includes a cutting assembly, a sensor system proximate to the cutting assembly, a reaction system operably connected to the cutting assembly, a memory, program instructions stored within the memory, a spatial recognition algorithm stored within the memory, and a processor operably connected to the reaction system, the sensor system, and the memory. The processor is configured to execute the program instructions to detect a man profile within a detection zone associated with the cutting assembly, establish a location of the human profile within the detection zone based upon the detection using the spatial recognition algorithm, determine that an unsafe condition exists based upon the established location, and activate the reaction system.

Sensing targets can be retroactively installed on the power tool, and can define warning and/or danger zones. Sensing can be via magnetic, electromagnetic, capacitive, eddy current, and/or range finding means. Sizes of warning and/or target areas can be controlled by selecting targets from a plurality of targets of various detection ranges. Protective responses can vary according to different sensed events, and can include audible, visual, and/or tactile alerts, and/or interruption of power to the tool. Embodiments can record proximity and/or status data during a work session for review, training, and certification purposes. A controller can be physically cooperative with the garment.

The machine may also include a bypass or override mode where in an injury mitigation system is disabled for certain cuts.

TABLE SAWS

Table saws with safety systems are disclosed. The safety systems detect and react to dangerous conditions, such as contact between the blade and a person. The table saws may include a switch, a first light that illuminates to indicate the safety system is operable, and a second light that illuminates to indicate that the safety system is inoperable. The switch may not power the saw when switched on if the second light is illuminated.
