Systems, devices, and methods are disclosed in which one or more light sources, a detector, a processor and a controller are configured such that light from the one or more light sources improves the ability of a human or automated motor vehicle driver to identify and avoid pedestrians. The one or more light sources may provide spot illumination to moving objects or pedestrians on a road surface, with the spot illumination following the moving object or pedestrians along the portion of the road surface. The one or more light sources may project images on the ground or on other surfaces. The light source may be carried by a pedestrian or on personal transport used by a pedestrian. The light sources may be stationary and provide lighting for a pedestrian street crossing.

Lighting Devices Having Optical Waveguides for Controlled Light Distribution

Lighting devices having optical waveguides for controlled light distribution are provided. A lighting device includes a housing, a light emitter disposed in the housing, and a waveguide at least partially disposed in an opening of the housing. The waveguide includes a light input surface defining coupling features, wherein the light emitter is disposed adjacent the light input surface and emits light into the coupling features. The waveguide further includes a light transmission portion disposed between the light input surface and a light extraction portion, wherein light from the light emitter received at the light input surface propagates through the light transmission portion toward the light extraction portion. The waveguide further includes the light extraction portion, which comprises at least one light redirection feature and at least one light extraction feature that cooperate to generate a controlled light pattern exiting the lighting device.

Apparatus and associated methods relate to an energy efficient and pollution reducing post top lamp. In an illustrative example, a replaceable light unit (RLU) includes a LED package distributed about a first axis of the RLU. The LED package, for example, may emit a light being redirected by a first optical element to generate a first optical distribution along a first optical axis in a first direction, the first optical axis being substantially parallel to the first axis. The first optical distribution may be, for example, reflected by a second optical element such that at least a portion of the light in the first optical distribution may be reflected into a second optical distribution. For example, at least fifty percent of the light in the second optical distribution may be greater than fifty degrees from the first optical axis. Various embodiments may advantageously conserve energy and/or reduce light pollution.

FLOW MANAGEMENT LIGHT

Techniques for creating, configuring, and employing flow management lights are presented. Such light(s) can comprise or be associated with a flow management component (FMC) that can employ sensors to monitor environmental conditions in a defined area of people or vehicle traffic, and can enhance its function to manage flow and security of the people or vehicle traffic. Such light(s) can be installed in a defined area. FMC can monitor and determine a context associated with the defined area, and can adjust light output or another parameter(s) of one or more lights based on the determined context. Over time, FMC can learn contexts of people or vehicle traffic at various times and adjust operations accordingly for the particular context at a specific time. FMC can control operations of such light(s) in relation to enhancing security and safety of people or traffic, business and sales operations, and other objectives.

Elevated structure-mounted lighting system

An improved elevated structure-mounted lighting system is disclosed. The lighting system may be used on drilling rigs, or with other applications, including for drilling, production, refineries, frac sites, construction, and other industrial applications that may use tower/mast type equipment. The improved elevated structure-mounted lighting system may accommodate any style or design of crown section of a drilling rig and may be mounted on a pole or independent mount system.
